Bought these after my 18 month old Sennheiser CX 300's gave up the ghost on one side, the temptation was to get another pair of CX 300's, but was annoyed I had to buy any more in the first place, so thought I'd give Sony a go and spend a bit less. On reading reviews, even with careful use, these portable ear phones, no matter who makes them, are definitely not objects that are going to last that long if you are active. So, manufacturers, how about making these a bit more robust, I'd pay more if I knew they would last a good innings with careful use.

    On to these Sony's:
    1. Generally quite flimsy, wires in particular. I hope I'm not updating this in a week saying they have broken already.
    2. They fit the ears well and seem to stay in place, even better than the Sennheissers.
    3. The cables are the same length, so they don't wrap around the back of your head. A good feature of the Sennheissers that I'm missing already.
    4. Sound quality, definitely worse than the Sennheissers (this wasn't supposed to be a comparison review...but it appears it is now!). A little more tinny and weaker bass. However, since they sit well in the ears, I get otimum sound more often. Previously I was adjusting and reinsterting, especially during exercise, so much of the time the bass was lost while they were losing position.
    5. They come with a useful cable wrap so it can be set to an optimal length, preventing snagging.
    6. There appears to be less feedback through the cable. Perhaps that's a benefit of it being more flimsy?

That's about it, hope it helps someone.

Considering the price paid I consider these earphones to be a worthwhile purchase. I have used them extensively over a two week holiday period with both IPOD and with a DAB radio and find the range and sound quality to be better than expected. Dont get me wrong they are not Bose premium quality sound and the Base range is not HI FI quality but then again neither is the price. The manufacturing quality is acceptable and the overall sound is significantly better than say an original IPOD offering (guess that isnt much of a comparison). If you are looking for a middle range set of earphones at a very reasonable price then I can recommend these.

These headphones are OK and for the price I wasn't expecting very much in terms of performance so they weren't exactly disappointing. The sound quality is average, there is a fairly decent midrange, but the bass feels somewhat lacking. Great for listening to spoken-word (audio-books, podcasts) as well as pop music, but not so good for classical music where there is a lot of bass.

If you're looking for good value headphones, for the price they are pretty good, just don't expect anything like high-performance models.

    In summary:

    Advantages:
+Price - from [...], very good value for what they are
+Comfort - the most comfortable headphones I've ever owned (your mileage may vary!), snug-fit and no pain in the ear even after relatively long periods of continuous use.
+Loud enough - even with the iPod set to a volume of about 50% these headphones give enough volume for most things without having to keep adjusting settings on the iPod.

    Disadvantages:
-Lack of bass - as I've mentioned, these earphones have pretty much no bass whatsoever, very disappointing when listening to classical music or music with bass in-general.
-Not the best sound quality generally.
-Flimsy cable - an exceeding thin wire connects the earphones to the plug, I am not expecting these to last very long, but we shall see.

    UPDATE:

Already after only a couple of weeks the cable has broken and the right ear produces only a very faint sound.

Im not sure why people are being so discerning about these earphones. I've found them to be pretty good.

Previously, i've had all sorts of headphones. Creatives, some sennheisers that turned out to be fake, skullcandy etc. All of them fell apart, stopped working on one side or sounded like crap. Usually all three at the same time.

They were also pretty terrible in the sense that they fell out all the time, or stuck out too far, or hurt etc. But these are very comfortable, a nice size, and dont weigh loads so they dont ever fall out on their own accord.

These have been the best headphones i've owned so far, i've had them for around 9 months, and they havent worn down, stopped working, and they sound pretty good in my opinion.

Most people think the epitome of good headphones are ones that are bassy, these arent, so they dont give you a mega headache every time you use them.

Im about to buy more of these, not because theyve broken, but because someone thought it would be a good idea to steal them.

For about a tenner, you cant do any better.

I was in search for a pair of cheap noise-reducing earphones to use for gaming or music on my PC. I wanted something lightweight and unobstructive and not too expensive. SONY, once more, delivered a good product at a fair price.

Checking out AMAZON reviews I was on the fence for either these (in black) or the Sennheiser CX300-B. There is a concerning number of reviews on the SENNHEISER complaining about either low material durability and/or interference noises form the cables touching either clothes or surfaces. Since, in my case, the main cable was going to be in constant contact with my desk I decided not to risk it. And did not regret it for a moment.

The SONYs come with three sizes of hardened silicone ear-cones (medium is the one pre-installed) and they work fine in reducing external noise. You will be able to follow a conversation if muted but once the sound is working do not expect to be able to ...multitask (eg: listening to music and holding a conversation with your wife).
They fit easily and I did not experience any discomfort if used for long periods of time.

I am no extreme audiophile but the sound is comparable to my 2+1 set of Logitech Z-2300. The later is an important detail because they come with a remote volume control which has an earphones outlet. Since the total cable length is somewhat less than 4ft (1.2m), I would not be able to use them for my PC which stands on the floor if not for this remote.

The earphones are well built and so far experienced neither friction interference nor static discharges.

    My only gripes:
    - the earbuds cables are not of the around-the-neck type. I prefer those better because you can take them off and still keep them hanging around your neck without fishing for them later.
