I was looking for a replacement for my Sennheisser MX 660 headphones (which although good in terms of sound, did not last more than 6 months, probably because of their thin leads which could not handle everyday commuter grind of unfurling, refurling, shoving into backpack etc.).
I had some set criteria in what I was looking for in a pair of headphones; these included a built in volume adjuster on the leads, reasonable sound quality and a sensible price. So, after looking at various options, I took a risk and bought these Sony headphones.
There have been fantastic and I have not looked back since. The sound is very well presented and for certain genres - e.g. Heavy Rock - the quality is quite mesmeric (I can hardly believe the quality of sound given that I'm listening to an Ipod with relatively inexpensive headphones) .The MDR-E829V's leads are very robust and don't look like fraying. The MDR-E829V's general build quality is excellent, the ear fit is good, and 10 months after purchase they are still going strong.
