I first purchased a pair of these in Dixons last week, thought the sound was awful (tinny, weak, no bass etc) and so sealed up the box and returned them straight away. However, after reading some of the reviews on here, I realised that I'd simply failed to fit the earpieces correctly (idiot!), and so decided to give them another chance. You really have to push the earpieces in quite a long way to achieve the best sound - but once fitted properly the sound really is excellent. (The headphones are also extremely comfortable and secure)
It's not so much that the audio quality is that much better than most other headphones. Rather, it's that these headphones block out almost all background noise. I tend to listen to music on the move, and these headphones are able to block out almost all nearby conversations or traffic noises - a real godsend, it has to be said. I've lost count of the number of times I've been unable to hear a song properly when walking alongside a busy road or sitting next to some loud-mouthed fool on the underground.
The cords are of slightly stupid lengths, but this is only a minor quibble. Also, because, these headphones go further into the ear than most, certain actions such as coughing or talking/singing become more problematic...(stick your fingers in your ears and say something and you'll have some idea what it will sound like). In other words you can't really sing or hum along with these headphones. It's a minor point but may be an issue for some people.
Anyway, if you listen to music on the move, then I'd definitely recommend these headphones (just make sure you've fitted them correctly before rushing to judgement!)

These tiny headphones are excellent.
When fitted correctly (see below), all external noise is cut out and, with my Sony MD / MP3, I'm rewarded with strong (but not overbearing) bass; treble which has "presence" without being tinny; and crisp clear vocals.
Combined with their unique design - which makes them for me by far the most comfortable in-the-ear phones I've ever owned (plus, they never fall out!) - and I'm one v. satisfied customer...
One point to highlight: to ensure the best depth and clarity of sound from these little gems, it's important to use them with the correct size of (silicone) earpiece for your ear (S, M and L are supplied). They should be a tight, although comfortable, fit. With all external noise blocked out, you'll be rewarded with great sound. I highlight this because when using mine for the first time (with the medium earpieces that were fitted) I was dissapointed by the quietness of vocals and a bass that was too powerful. However, this problem was quickly resolved by my replacing with the larger earpieces.
Since I bought these phones for their sound quality - rather than the accompanying accessories - I won't comment on, for example, the small plastic carry case. Suffice to say, it adequately does its job but is easily lost.
Although not cheap, for their quality, I think these headphones offer good value for money. I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a comfortable, lightweight design, combined with outstanding sound.

Let's keep this brief: If you want a pair of in-ear type headphones that sound *great* and won't break the bank these are the only choice.
I've used Sony, Panasonic and Sennheiser earbuds over the years and they've always disappointed to some extent; either the bass is too flimsy, or too much external noise gets through. With these Sonys the design genius lies in the soft latex rubber earpieces that come in three sizes. One of these will be a perfect fit for your lug'oles and they manage to block out the vast majority of external noise. The result is nicely balanced, rich sound with plenty of low-end grunt. As A Tribe Called Quest once put it 'Precise, bass-heavy and just right'.
These headphones have been a real joy for me and will give any portable music source a real boost. If I have just one reservation it would be that the build quality, whilst good, may not withstand any particularly rough handling. But to be honest, you'll love these Sonys so much you'll want to take good care of them.
Very highly recommended.

I've tried quite a few headphones in this price-band, and for me these are the best by quite a way. If you're the sort who wants window-shaking bass at the cost of everything else, then these aren't for you. But if you're looking for headphones with a good range response and sound resolution, I would recommend you give these a try.
Bass is well defined and does not polute mid-range, and is sufficient for you to "feel" it rather than just hear it. It does tend to loose a bit of this punch as you move into the lower mid-range scales though (French Horn can sound a bit warm for my liking, hence only 4 stars).
The mid-range is excellent and generates a beautifully defined soundcape - you actually sense the music is around you, not just coming from inside both your ear canals.
At the upper end, sound is equally crisp, though can emphasise hiss or other artefacts in poor quality recordings or low bit-rate MP3s (can't hold this against them though!).
Whilst everyone's requirements differ, I use these for listening to a wide range of music, from classical to rock. Their rendition of everything is precise and colourful without getting muddy, and vocals come across particularly well. It's worth playing around with the 3 sizes of rubber fittings, as getting the right size does make a lot of difference to the strength and resolution of the bass.
The only weaknesses with these are that the music can sound a bit "warm" at the lower mid-range, and they're not for you if you just want strong bass (you don't need to spend this much if you're not bothered about mid-range and treble!). However, you won't get better for the money, and these are up to the challenge of more expensive other brand "in-ears".
