It is difficult to find in ear headphones that are comfortable and also hard wearing with decent performance. So far my purchase of these headphones has, however, been a very positive experience.

Previously I have loved the comparatively good fit of the Sony MDR-ED21LP headphones. The price of those headphones however seems to vary significantly. I have owned several pairs of those and found that they stayed in my ear well (even when running) but weren't irritating because they worked by being jammed in the ear canal. I have had several pairs of those but found that every 6-10 months one or other side has stopped working.

Before Christmas I then needed to replace my MDR-E21LPs and the replacement price on Amazon was higher than previously paid so I thought I would try the MDR-ED21LPs instead as they were significantly cheaper but still had the same (non-earbud) kind of shape.

They turned up next day. Not bad for Christmas Eve! I have found that they are in fact a better fit for me. Sound quality appears to be just as good as my old MDR-E21LPs. As to durability? Last week I was on a long car journey and hadn't realised when I pulled out of a service station onto the Motorway that the cord of the headphones had accidentally been shut in the fornt door with the headphones trailing outside. I could hear the headphones bashing away on the ground and against the car going down the motorway. At the next junction I expected to find them bashed to pieces and unuseable. But no! To my surprise and delight they may be scratched but work just as well!!

Got a pair of these to replace my wonderful MDR-21s after my teenage son decided that his need was greater than mine ;)

Pros - Great sound quality, especially the bass.
- Fit really well.
- Cancels out a lot of background noise due to the design of the in ear part.

Cons - The blue part sometimes makes them a bit difficult to lay on your side if you like to listen to your iPod in bed! The MD21's were much better for this.

Bottom line is that these are great sounding and cheap as chips. Well recommended.

I bought a pair of these as my awesome Sony MDR-ED21LPs broke on me. Shame as the audio quality of the Sony MDR-ED21LPs was fantastic. These are supposed to be the replacement for them, unfortunately I do not think these live up to the Sony MDR-ED21LP sound.

Pros:

- Small, easy to carry
- Good bass reproduction (not tinny)
- Not in ear headphones

Cons:

- Blue bits make putting in one of my ears difficult, the long arm on the Sony MDR-ED21LPs meant I could tweak to get the positioning perfect.
- Sound quality is poor with an overall bias towards the bass to the detriment of the upper mid range which tends to squash any vocals.

All in all not a bad pair but I won't be buying again and will be looking for a better pair to live up to the Sony MDR-ED21LPs!

I Bought these to replace the standard Sony items that came with my Ipod Classic which just don't stay put. No problem with these. They fit securely into the ear and stay there comfortably. They provide good clear sound quality with excellent bass. Well worth the money.

All told, when I purchase a set of headphones all I am looking for is a reasonable sound at an affordable price. I use them mostly for the gym, or when out running and so they need to have a robust cable which will not cut out after a short time with regular flexing.

Unfortunately I never got to the gym with this pair. I bought them brand new, and in their original sealed packaging, however upon receipt I opened them up and found that whilst the left headphone worked perfectly, the right did not. After some playing around I found that this is the dreaded defective cable - I could get it to work intermittently depending on the angle of the cable. While I am familiar with this defect occurring over time and with frequent use, I was extremely disappointed to find a popular branded product with this issue straight out of the box.

I will not be buying these again.

Since I was a kid I've spent hours every day listening to earphones - commuting, radio shows before bed, at home on the computer, blocking out noisy neighbours, playing guitar through an amp. I've always had 4 or 5 different sets of them in the house, and owned most brands. The best ones I've had in the past were Aiwa branded, for the past 5 or so years it was the ed21s (the previous version of these), and now these are out they're still better than any other earbuds I've heard.

They're not bass-heavy, they don't offer super clarity (though the best clarity you can get without using an in-ear phone), and the soundstage isn't exceptional - but the overall balance and detail of sound is spot on. These are probably the only earbuds which sound good and appropriate with anything - including non-music stuff like skype calls or podcasts. They have a soft enough veil that you can listen for hours without getting tired, but whether your music is bassy or screechy they still deliver the sound honestly and with vibrancy. It's exceptional sound quality.

I don't know whether it's the tip - semi in ear - design, the large driver (16mm when most earbuds are around 12-14) or just good components, but these are just great for the price. Especially so considering how bad most other earbuds are these days.

It's unfortunate, but it seems Sony are really the only ones making decent earbuds anymore - most brands have grown worse over the years, preferring cheap prices (and components probably), colours and packaging to good sound quality, or focusing more on in ear designs. Even these are a tad less bassy (which I like) than their previous model, the ed21.

Anyway, if you're looking for earbuds, and don't want to get in-ears, this is as good as it can get, you won't be disappointed.
