5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent buy, 8 Jan 2005
I bought these Sony 'phones to replace/upgrade from my other Sony ones. I had MDR-E818LP Acoustic Twin Turbo ones, though a quick and cheap fix at the time, I wouldn't bother if I were you.
These new Fonotopia ones give far superior sound - excellent bass and incredible clarity even at low volume. This is enhanced by the bigger frequency range, although overall this is determined by your player (I have Zen Micro).
Extremely comfortable, perfect for those who find large or those with nodules for base (earphones) uncomfortable.
If you want decent audio quality you can really enjoy, it's really not worth going down in the Sony range beyond this point.
You'll be glad you didn't!

5.0 out of 5 stars Poor build quality, 6 Feb 2006
By A Customer
These earphone broke after three months. The left ear started
crackling then failed - the split - where the wire seperates from one
wire to each headphone is incredibly weak and does not take kindly to
continued flexing.

Next the foam ear pads that came with disintergrated. Last time I buy sony.

Objectively:
They look to be the best Sony phones of this type (sitting in your
ear) available on amazon. Sound quality is fine - I can't
complain at all. They don't mind playing the music very loud. They
stay in my ears while running and arn't uncomfortable if you use the
foam cover pads that came it - otherwise they rub to the point of
being sore - your mileage may vary on this point.

Cord is the same thickness as the plastic cables, but is covered in a
material - doesn't feel cold on your neck. It looks to be about 1.5
meters long. It is the type where one cable goes behind your neck to
the other ear. You get a wind up case with the phones.

If you want some phones for home listening look at any Grado or the
higher end Sennheiser - vented models. Because bigger models like
these have large drivers and sit away from your ears, you
automatically get more bass.

If you want a pair of cheap in-ear phones that are fine - these are
they - just beware of the cheap build quality that comes with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony MDR-E931LP Silver Fontopia headphones, 5 April 2005
They come with a winder (technical term :) for winding the cord and storing the headphones. The sound output is great, plenty of volume and surprisingly they are of excelent quality alot better than im used too they have a very flexible cord made using material (i think) not plastic. I recomend them I bought them for my sister but I wish I had bought them for me!
