Please note, these are not the similar looking but different sounding MDR-V150 phones!

The sound from these is reasonably clean and clear. Bass is not stunning but is far better than the muffled response from the V150s (I know, because I have both and can compare directly). If I have a criticism it's that they are a little sibilant on cymbals but not too bad. Vocals are clear and the overall sound balance is generally pleasing.

They are light and comfortable to wear. There is also a volume control and stereo/mono switch on the lead. This latter is useful if you're listening to a cheap radio with a mono output from the phone jack.

The lead is reasonably long and allows them to be linked up to the computer without them being pulled off when you stand up.

Can't argue with the quality for the price but I would say best to avoid the v150 model!

I use these at work for listening to the radio and to music, they give me the personal space I need to get through my work in a sometimes busy and noisy office. The headphones themselves are well made, lightweight, and give a crisp sound. The sound canceling qualities are not perfect but they do cut out a lot of the distracting background noise of a typical office.

I chose these headphones over several other choices, including more expensive offerings from Sony, and I am not disappointed in my final decision.

I had these for a little under a year when I was studying in Malaysia.
I had gotten sick of the crappy in-ear ones that came with my Sony Ericsson Walkman phone as they kept falling out of ears and I wanted something with slightly better bass.

With not alot of money, I went to a Sony Centre and I tried the few on-ear ones that fell within this price range. I ended up choosing these cause they sounded the best with my phone. The bass is reasonably deep and the mid and high end sounds good too. I mostly listen to rock music, so I didn't want the bass so deep anyway, just enough to be able to appreciate the drums and bass guitar without having it overpower the rest of the range.

The size isn't excessive so you don't look funny wearing them.

I didn't like the super-long cable cause I used them on the go and i had to bunch it up, but they're meant for home/tv/pc use anyway so I didnt mind. Plus it came in handy when using them at home. I wish Sony had given a normal 0.75m cable and given an extension cord with it for free or something, just for more flexibility.
The cable has a volume control knob on it and a switch that switches between stereo and mono. Pretty redundant to me.

The only other problem was that the pads sit on your ears and aren't very soft, so they can make your ears hurt a bit after an hour of listening.

I would still have them if my silly room-mate hadn't stole them before I left Malaysia. But by then they hadn't shown any sign of wear. These would probably last 3-5 years if used reasonably carefully.

Overall, 4 stars (because of the super-long cable and uncomfortable ear pads) but probably the best headphones you'll get for this amount.

I purchased these headphones for taking on holiday and for when I'm out on my push bike. I don't like the in ear phones or the larger style that completely cover the ear (I find the latter tend to get a bit hot and sweaty). I found these headphones excellent value for the money, really nice detailed sound (most of my music is about 256kbps), comfy, possibly some minor discomfort after a few hours but just slightly re-positioning them sorted that out, and even in 28-29 degree heat didn't get to sweaty with them on. Pads are soft and flexible which is good because the cups only pivot on one axis. Ran them virtually at full volume and people on the sun-bed next to me couldn't hear them.

If you don't like in-ear but still need a portable pair of headphones I would certainly recommend these.

Just got these headphones to use at work for my ipod, largely because I find on-the-ear headphones more comfortable (and, let's be honest, more hygenic) than in-ear buds. Comparing the sound quality of the two was a revelation - with the ipod phones, rock music sounds tinny. With these Sony phones, the same track is totally different - a lot more bassy, more depth, cymbals much less prominent. There is also a properly long lead, a converter so that you can use the phones for your stereo, and a (somewhat redundant) volume control.
