Product Description

Critically acclaimed and best-selling PlayStation franchise LittleBigPlanet makes its debut on PlayStation 4 with LittleBigPlanet 3. Sackboy is back, this time with playable new friends – Toggle, OddSock, and Swoop – each with their own unique abilities and personalities. This handcrafted adventure is set to revolutionise the way gamers play, create, and share in the world of LittleBigPlanet when it releases in November 2014.

Storyline:

In LittleBigPlanet 3, Sackboy is transported to a new planet called Bunkum, a creative paradise where abundant ideas drift through the sky. Unwittingly, Sackboy helps release three mythical creatures called the Titans who aim to ruin Bunkum and transform the world's most unskilled Creator, Newton, into a terrible monster. To restore balance to the land, Sackboy is going to need help in the form of Bunkum's ancient heroes: Toggle, OddSock, and Swoop.

Key features:

  • New playable characters: Three new playable characters – Toggle, OddSock, and Swoop – each with their own unique set of skills. Toggle comes in two forms, Big and Little; Big Toggle is heavy and strong, capable of weighing down platforms and moving heavy objects, while Little Toggle is nimble and fast, perfect for fitting through small gaps. OddSock is a fast, agile wall-jumping character, while Swoop can fly and glide at high speeds and lift up objects with her talons.
  • Four-player online/offline multiplayer: Play both the Adventure mode – designed using solely Create tools – or download any of the user-generated levels to play with up to four friends via offline co-op or online via random matchmaking.
  • Powerful, accessible, new Create tools: Create mode has been completely redesigned with powerful new tools, including customising how each of the four playable characters look and play, giving the community even more options to massively expand UGC possibilities. Creating is also easier than ever before with new advancements like the DualShock 4 wireless controller touch pad for a more tactile creative experience.
  • Fresh next-gen experience: The PS4 system offers greater functionality, advanced gameplay performance, and upgraded graphical fidelity with four times the pattern texture resolution and added depth of field, all in full HD 1080p. Leveraging key PS4 system features, LBP3 offers players the best LBP experience to date.
  • Share more: Building upon the strong LBP community at the heart of the franchise, LBP3 offers even more ways for players to share their experiences. Through the Share button on the DualShock 4 wireless controller, players can now instantly share their latest feat or edit and publish video clips straight from the game.
  • Cohesive LBP platform community: LBP3 offers players on the PS4 platform access to over 8.5 million previously published UGC community levels for an expansive, interconnected community.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lives by the creative sword, but doesn't die. 8 Dec. 2014
Platform for Display:PlayStation 4
Many feared the switch between Media Molecule and Sumo would spell the end for LittleBigPlanet. It's a series with inherent difficulties, being enhanced many fold. They could have easily chose to leave it's legacy behind and start from scratch. But they stuck it out to create another astonishing piece of work.

For a kick off, they've expanded the original 3 playable layers to a massive 16. It's a popular decision that was born from LBP2's 50 Layer Glitch, which creators used to their advantage and created more detailed and visually superior levels. As a result it became a semi-official tool, but with drawbacks...not the case anymore. The player can now move freely between 16 layers.

In addition to these new layers is full control of LBP2's Sackbots. You can now manipulate them to run in a top down style (THE Yeti level shows this off superbly), but it doesn't stop there, you can now set your Sackbot to perform an incredible number of animations. Stop, start, mixed and blended anyway you like. Then there's the more advanced Dynamic Thermo, which can be used to make larger levels and save precious resources. It really is a comprehensive set of tools, for making an evermore widening range of creation.

It might be a controversial statement, but Sackboy - the beloved icon of LittleBigPlanet - may have been eclipsed by new character Oddsock. Although Sackboy's controls have been improved, Oddsock - a four legged creature - has a precise movement that many people seem to prefer, as well as being faster and has the ability to spring off walls. Personally I like Sackboy for the new range of power ups (which have the crazy ability to be fully customized to make any power up you can think of).

Now before you discard the 3 stars as being a hater. I am not, I have loved LittleBigPlanet since it very first come out, one on my favourite games. So here is my HONEST review!

Good:
The game is amazing, every little part of the game is beautifully detailed and well made, the levels are, once again, top-notch and the experience is brilliant, another add is the new create mode that now features 16 layers to build in (instead of 3) and has multiple additions to make the game different including the whole new outlook of streaming and how you an have users interact with the game through the interactions options on Twitch! The new popit puzzles makes the game even more great as being able to learn how to create and use some of the new switches and connectors.

My Problems (Bad):
The game is VERY buggy, and ultimately seemed to be thrown out before it was finished, there are numerous glitches and some enabling you to physically "break" the game allowing you not to play and be forced to delete your content and restart from the beginning. So here are the MULTIPLE problems I had with the game:

1. Lag and frame rate problems:
This is a massive problem as the game is on the "most powerful gaming console ever" yet it lags and when playing the story will lag and sometimes cause the game to error. This IS common and YOU WILL MOST LIKELY see this when you get the game.

2. Create mode in the "Pod":
The pod you can decorate with stickers and decorations but you CAN'T go into create mode and build blocks and contraptions because this can break the game.

A great game (mostly) but suffers from that most annoying of trends: Multi player only accessibility (in places). I do understand that, for many, the ability to play games cooperatively is a huge draw, but there are very many of us out here that want to sit down and trawl through a platformer on our own, as a way to unwind and disengage from the real world. Don't get me wrong, it is possible to spend hours with LBP3 without having to invite friends, you just can't complete very many of the levels secrets without the involvement of another person. Quite why this has to be, I really don't know, but 1) I am an older gamer (in my fifties) and am way past having friends round to play games. 2) I Only own one controller and am not prepared to spend out another £50 just so I can invite my son to help me beat the game. There's nothing in the trailers or advertising that explain that some levels simply can't be completed without help (although the multi-player coop is mentioned). I really just wish that developers would stop insisting we are permanently online and 'engaging' with other gamers. It can be done - just look at the excellent Rayman Legends.

Ah well, if you have lots of friends and they are willing to come over with a second controller and help out, that's great. Or if you want to get involved with the (often incredibly obnoxious and abusive) on-line community then that's fine. If not, be prepared to be disappointed on many levels of this otherwise good game.

Also, the over-long cut scene talking from Fry & Laurie is very annoying.
