4.0 out of 5 stars PSP goes on a diet, 16 Sep 2007

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
The new PSP is 19% thinner and 30% lighter. Should definitely notice the difference as soon as its in your hands. Here are the pros and cons

Pros:
+ Video Out to your TV. Watch your UMD movies and Games on your screen. This is the perhaps the best feature of any handheld.
+ Much lighter, feels really good in your hands.
+ The D-Pad has been upgrades. Fighting Game Lovers rejoice!
+ The analog nub also feels more responsive.
+ Buttons are raised making them easier to click.
+ The LCD is brighter, has a higher refresh rate and the colors are more vibrant.
+ UMD games load faster.
+ The memory has been doubled in this unit to allow developers to build caches they can then use to make games load much faster.
+ Even games that dont implement caches, load faster due to an automatic new caching done by the system.
+ Ability to eat less battery life.

Cons:
- Over priced when you think that americans are getting psp console, game, family guy umd and a memery stick for cheaper than this.
- Only black to choose from where are the silver and white ones that japan and USA get.
- UMD tray may not impress. It feels cheaper.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sony PSP Slim+Lite, 31 Jan 2008
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I always wanted a PSP from they first came out but never made the jump as I was always happy with my PS2 but last week I pushed the boat out and picked up a black PSP. First impressions were very positive, its glossy finish looks superb and that screen is just a work of art. A gorgeous little machine overall. The battery life doesn't appear to be outstanding, maybe 2 hours between charges but I can live with that. I haven't sampled movies or music on it yet but the graphics on the games I am playing are just astounding, easily surpassing those of my PS2. The WI-FI connection was as easy as pie to set up also. I deducted a point for 2 reasons. 1 - The front of the console is superbly built but the back is not. It feels cheap and tacky and would probably explode into a million pieces of dropped. The UMD latch also opens a bit too easily for my liking. 2 - The location and function of the Power/Hold switch is annoying. When using the 'R' button it is quite easily to push the power button up turning the console off (annoying when you haven't saved your game). Overall though i'm definitely chuffed with my purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good, 19 Dec 2007

(REAL NAME)
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Ive only had my PSP (Slim) a few days and it doesn't fail to impress me.
I really wanted a portable film player, a decent games console and a sat nav. So why not have all of these in one? Heck, it even acts as an MP3 player.
Yet again, Sony has a slow-burning piece of hardware on its hands, its true potential yet to be realised.
As much as I appreciate what Nintendo has done in giving gaming to a larger market, there was really no question as to which one I wanted.
As far as Im concerned, the DS does have a good games catalogue, but aimed at the younger more casual gamer. The PSP, against misconceptions, has a very good back catalogue of titles.
The clarity of the screen is, honestly, absolutely stunning. Just put Lumines or Loco Roco in and you can't be failed to be impressed by the looks and the fluidity at how everything runs.
Admittedly, the UMD film thing is a bit of a letdown but thats only because, rightly so, you are not going to pay 15 quid to have another copy of a film which you already own on DVD (hence the TV output - which Im yet to try). Still, this means we can now buy three films for a tenner which is cheaper than three rentals. And thats not to mention the fact you can now download media manager to store your own DVDs to memory stick.
Im looking forward to the sat nav, the newly announced PS1 playback via remote play on PS3 (When I get round to buying one) and an increasingly impressive catalogue on the PSP store.
The ultimate accolade for me? My mum, shes 60, and an avid Playstion fan. The only thing shes ever played, or wanted to play, on a Nintendo is Windwaker.
The PSP has exceeded all my expectations and one of the few ways I can fault it is that I wish there was a few more high profile titles - the PSP is selling bucketloads but the games are not in the charts. So I can only assume that it is being used as a portable media device first and then a gaming console.
The second is that the back of this model doesnt feel as stirdy as I thought it would.
Thirdly, I was a bit annoyed with the location of the headphones jack but a few days later Ive realised it could be anywhere else.
Treat yourself, Ive already been on the internet on it and am now looking forward, another one, to watching live or recorded TV at Wi-fi hotspots as soon as I get my PS3.
