Full HD 1080p
Full HD 1080p is the ultimate HD format, providing more than 2 million pixels for a smooth high resolution image. The number 1080 relates the number of horizontal lines of pixels on the screen. The more lines that a screen contains, the better the picture quality. To compare, HD-Ready sets have 768 while standard definition (SD) sets have just 576 lines. The letter p refers to its progressive or non-interlaced picture-scanning process where all the lines of the image are refreshed by every vertical scan. 1080p is the maximum resolution defined for HDTV use and this format is used for Blu-ray Disc™ ® and PLAYSTATION®3
Subscription-free, built-in Freeview
To add to your viewing choice, the set has a built-in Freeview HD TV tuner so you have instant access to a huge range of free-to-air and digital TV and radio channels, including HD programmes. Channels are free so you won't have any subscription fees or contracts to sign. Because it's all built-in you won't need a set-top box or satellite dish either. Experience style and substance
The TV's sleek 46" (117cm) screen not only enhances the viewing experience but looks stunning even when the picture is off. Switch it to Picture Frame mode and you can turn your BRAVIA into a work of art by displaying pre-installed images or your own photos and make great use of your wall space even when you're not watching TV. To allow you to enjoy the perfect fusion of image and sound, the speakers are hidden in the TV design and positioned for ideal sound elevation.
Enjoy authentic cinematic experiences
Cinema Mode is a new picture setting developed in collaboration between BRAVIA and Sony Pictures Entertainment. It allows films to be viewed as close to the original director's cut as possible. Cinema Mode precisely reproduces details such as natural skin tone, lighting, colour and contrast. In 24p True Cinema mode films can be watched as the director intended for the big screen - at 24 frames per second. Standard TVs use 25 frames a second which means they play back 'faster' than they do in the cinema.
Atmospheric settings
Whether you're watching the big match, the latest movie or playing a high impact game, Scene Select allows you to choose from a list of options to automatically adjust the sound and picture settings to complement the on screen action.
Clearer, more life-like colours
Reds and greens are notoriously difficult to reproduce on an LCD screen. Live Colour intelligently boosts these colours making sure the images you see on your BRAVIA TV are bright, vibrant and realistic. Connect a compatible camera or camcorder and the TV will automatically switch to optimum settings for displaying photos and reproduce their full, realistic texture and colour.

The HD is stunning,

I bought it the day before the World Cup final. I didn't buy it from Amazon as I can get the benefit from SONY trade in scheme (saving £[]) during that time and upgraded to 5 year extended warranty. As the salesman correcly pointed out, this model is exactly the same as EX503 and the only difference is that it is not 100Hz and the stand won't allow you to have the televison swivelled. I don't find it a problem unless you have a pair of extremely sensitive eyes and you have to swivel the TV a lot (it is so light that you can turn the set easily). The quality of the built in Freeview HD is stunning, well done SONY! Why bother paying almost £[] more for the EX503 and buy some features you don't really need!

Ok, so i spent a couple of weeks checking out TV`s was upgrading from a 40" Sony (KDL40U2000) I bought back in 97 was only 720p and was starting to show its age, so I knew I wanted Sony again, wanted to go bigger had to be LCD (retention of Plasmas puts me off) and it needed to compete against the LG`s out there. So it was between this and the KDL-46EX503, but I wasn't sure if £200 extra was worth it for the 100hz, as I was mounting the set I didn't care about swivel stands, what swung it was this model has a input lag of 30ms (for Xbox 360 gaming) but the 503 has a massive 60ms and playing online that wasn't going to cut it! Packaging: You Get TV: (Wrapped in usual Poly-envirokiller, Plastics protection on bezel, but surprisingly no actual screen protection) Remote + Batteries: (very nice hidden battery compartment, and nice design with a underside power button) Manuals and paper junk. It's all packaged safe enough and arrived in good condition. Design: The design is beautiful, a black surrounding bezel with a brushed steel colour effect along he bottom, all glossed, the LEDs are not major bright and not distracting and hidden speakers, the bezel is about 2 inch all around but doesn't feel too thick and doesn't make the screen feel smaller, in fact it seems to compliment it and make the TV seem bigger (which for most males is a good thing!) Sound: LCD sound is bad, it's OK in a small room, or for night time viewing, but it's not really going to give you any bass or tweets, but for a LCD its surprisingly very good, it's the better of LCD audio systems, but I personally use a 7.1 Receiver setup so it's not a concern to me, the menu has a home theatre speaker option which disables the TV speakers. Picture: OK, basically the HD is Fecking Outstanding! For this price it destroys some 1000+ models and the Blacks are better than some of the Mid range plasmas I have seen, they are seriously good, SD material is brilliantly up scaled and Freeview HD is very good on this set, I use SKY+HD and its amazingly good in HD and one of the best I have seen for SD although some channels seem to be softened around the edges (I suspect it's the channels bitrate), BD player 1080p (Sony s370) has got to be one the best I have seen on any set, seriously I don't know why this set is so cheap). One slight niggle is this set isn't 100hz but I watch very little fast paced sports and as such it won't affect me much maybe in fast action movies it may. Also the set I have heard is prone to grey banding, usually on very light pictures, but so far I haven't seen this and I have been looking for it, I hear it's more of a problem for the 503 model. Gaming is excellent on this set too. Connections: 4 x HDMI (Input 1,4 on rear 2,3 on side), 1 Component, 1 Composite, 2 x Scart, Aerial, Digital Optical Toslink Output, VGA + Headphone inputs) no analogue audio output though. USB. Features: Comes with, Freeview HD, Internet TV(YouTube, iPlayer, etc), Picture In picture (with PC input) Picture and Picture (HDMI + FreeviewHD) Picture, Music and Video playback via USB, DNLA. Loats of config options. Summary: I don't think you can get a better TV with the Features and Balck Levels for under £600.00 on any other brand I say buy it!!

While i was watching a long youtube video, it switched off. i tried several time to watch it with the same result.also there is not Channel 4 and ITV on demand, but there is BBC iplayer and FIVE on demand. i would expect ch4 because its the most entertaining of them free channels on air. other than that no problems. maybe when all the channels get the HD resolution we can enjoy a better viewing. needless to say HD channels are awesome, but the normal ones are not so enjoyable to watch.
