Amazing tv, 15 Feb 2007
This review is from: Sony KDL40X2000U - 40" Widescreen Bravia 1080P Full HD LCD TV - With Freeview (Electronics)
I have spent 18 months looking for a flat screen telly and have seen lcd technology improve significantly over that time. Who would have thought back at the start of 05 that a 40" lcd could have been this good!
Having read the reviews and watched a number of demos I am completely blow away by this tv. Sure it's expensive but it's worth every penny when priced against the competition. I am utterly amazed at how much the price has fallen over the last 8 months. At this price the tv is an absolute steal.
The picture is superb, with great darks and amazing colours. The refresh rates are great and sports have none of the tell tail blurring, it's all crisp and clear. The digital tv pictures are fantastic, so much better than my freeview box and sony CRT. The sound is fantastic with great depth and fine detailing, for such narrow speakers the bass is mind blowing. The picture quality from my DVDs run through a Sony RDR860 are great.

Defo 5 Stars!, 8 July 2007
This review is from: Sony KDL40X2000U - 40" Widescreen Bravia 1080P Full HD LCD TV - With Freeview (Electronics)
Ill keep it short and sweet. This set is undeniably awesome. It is 40 beautiful inches of clear, crisp 1080p magic. I recently purchased a samsung 40" that is 1080p but have always had my eye on this beast - and as soon as I saw the price tag come down to a mere £1600 (50% of its original price when released) on here I knew I had to get rid of the samsung. Almost every review I have read on this set (including the ones below, thank you very much!) has rated it so highly and I can honestly say that it is worth every single last penny, infact its an absolute bargin! Just looking at it without the screen on screams sheer class - the glass skirting with the Sony lighting is fantastic. But when you do press that button on the solid remote control you are heavily rewarded - I should state that I am commenting on the HD quality with a PS3 hooked up via HDMI. The detail is so much better than my previous samsung and the colours are wonderful, and this is all with factory settings. I have optimised my set with Digital Video Essentials, which Amazon stock, and for those of you that want to make the most of this screen I strongly recommend this, the end result is near perfect. Playing PS3 games and watching Blu Ray discs is just so much more pleasurable now than with the Samsung - it really is better than a cinema. However I don't output the audio to the TV, I have a sound system for that - as alot of you will know, most LCD/Plasma speakers are useless, this one included - but if I'm only watching freeview then the TV speakers are fine. Talking of freeview - the in-built digital tv is great quality, standard def visuals look spot on but do look flat and washed out after hours of 1080p experience! The programme guide is very user friendly and not shabby looking like so many freeview boxes.
So to conclude I would have to rate this as a must have for any living room, even if you haven't taken the leap to HD yet - its stylish looks and ultra realistic visuals are sure to blow anyone of you away (apart from those that can afford £6k pioneer plasma's!)

Excellent Picture in SD and HD. Sound a little disapointing., 3 Jun 2007
This review is from: Sony KDL40X2000U - 40" Widescreen Bravia 1080P Full HD LCD TV - With Freeview (Electronics)
I bought this TV in November 2006 after months of reading reviews and waiting for the model to be available in the UK. I have it connected to Sky HD and an XBoX 360 with HD-DVD Drive.
Many reviews one reads say that LCD TVs give a poor picture with standard definition pictures (via freeview or Sky), however, from a normal viewing distance, I find it hard sometimes to tell the difference in the picture between SD and HD. Up-close, it is obvious.
With an HD input, the qulity is exceptional. It is with football on Sky HD that the benefits of the TV's HD capability come through the most - you'll never want to view a football match in SD again! The responsiveness of the TV's picture means that you do not get the slur or jumps in picture that I have seen on other LCD screens with fast moving objects.
Sony make a point of the 178 degree viewing angle. It is for real. The picture is as clear, bright and colourful from any seat in my lounge.
The sound from the TV is a little disapointing. To me, it lacks depth. I have the TV in a corner, which may be the reason that the virtual surround sound effects are barely noticable. If you are going to invest in a TV this size and in HD equipment, then a home cinema surround sound system is essential to appriciate it fully. So I bought one last month - and the difference is remarkable.
