Full HD 1080p
Full HD 1080p is the ultimate HD format, providing more than 2 million pixels for a smooth high resolution image. The number 1080 relates the number of horizontal lines of pixels on the screen. The more lines that a screen contains, the better the picture quality. To compare, HD-Ready sets have 768 while standard definition (SD) sets have just 576 lines. The letter p refers to its progressive or non-interlaced picture-scanning process where all the lines of the image are refreshed by every vertical scan. 1080p is the maximum resolution defined for HDTV use and this format is used for Blu-ray Disc™ ® and PLAYSTATION®3
Subscription-free, built-in Freeview
To add to your viewing choice, the set has a built-in Freeview HD TV tuner so you have instant access to a huge range of free-to-air and digital TV and radio channels, including HD programmes. Channels are free so you won't have any subscription fees or contracts to sign. Because it's all built-in you won't need a set-top box or satellite dish either. Simply plug in your external TV aerial and access all your channels using just one remote control.

Experience style and substance
The TV's sleek 37" (94cm) screen not only enhances the viewing experience but looks stunning even when the picture is off. Switch it to Picture Frame mode and you can turn your BRAVIA into a work of art by displaying pre-installed images or your own photos and make great use of your wall space even when you're not watching TV. To allow you to enjoy the perfect fusion of image and sound, the speakers are hidden in the TV design and positioned for ideal sound elevation.
Enjoy authentic cinematic experiences
Cinema Mode is a new picture setting developed in collaboration between BRAVIA and Sony Pictures Entertainment. It allows films to be viewed as close to the original director's cut as possible. Cinema Mode precisely reproduces details such as natural skin tone, lighting, colour and contrast. In 24p True Cinema mode films can be watched as the director intended for the big screen - at 24 frames per second. Standard TVs use 25 frames a second which means they play back 'faster' than they do in the cinema.
Atmospheric settings
Whether you're watching the big match, the latest movie or playing a high impact game, Scene Select allows you to choose from a list of options to automatically adjust the sound and picture settings to complement the on screen action.
Clearer, more life-like colours
Reds and greens are notoriously difficult to reproduce on an LCD screen. Live Colour intelligently boosts these colours making sure the images you see on your BRAVIA TV are bright, vibrant and realistic. Connect a compatible camera or camcorder and the TV will automatically switch to optimum settings for displaying photos and reproduce their full, realistic texture and colour.

Great LCD Picture with 'extras',
By
This review is from: Sony Bravia KDL37EX403U 37-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD Internet TV with Freeview HD (Electronics)
I bought this TV from Amazon in April after reviewing many 37 inch LCD and Plasma models. To me the extras, including Bravia engine3, USB connectivity and WiFi potential made this model, the EX403 model, the choice over the cheaper EX401 model. The picture quality on Blue Ray and even 'normal' TV is excellent with excellent blacks and a vivid picture I set up to my own preferences. The sound is better than many TVs but I have now connected it to my 5.1 sound system. The TV has multiple 'scene' modes for sport, cinema, music etc. However the general setting is good for all scenarios and I now do not use this feature. The freeview HD receiver gives very good pictures although HD is not yet available in my area so I cannot comment on the HD element of freeview. My TV is connected to Sky and the picture shows up the stations that do not put in the effort to give good picture quality. I like the option of modulating the sound so that it stays at the same volume when an advert break comes along. This is a definite aid in lowering high blood pressure! I have only given 4 stars because the WiFi is troublesome. I have scoured the internet to find what usb wifi dongle will work with the TV. Apart from Sonys own £70! dongle there are no other recommendations. My existing Belkin dongle, from a laptop, was not recognised. In the USA I hear the TV ships with a dongle. Would have been nice to see iplayer on my TV but I have not given up on it yet! So apart from the WiFi,which might work soon, an excellent TV with a great picture and good sound.

My first HD TV. It's a cracker.,
This review is from: Sony Bravia KDL37EX403U 37-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD Internet TV with Freeview HD (Electronics)
I bought this last week, direct from Sony, because it's simply a really special TV set. It sports the Bravia 3 engine, internet streaming of video, it syncs with your sony BRD player, if you have one, and that removes the need for a second remote control - great if like me you lose one down the back of the sofa. However all of these features pale into insignificance against the Freeview HD inclusion. You get free transmissions of BBC HD, ITV HD and C4 HD without having to subscribe to Sky or cable. Just connect your normal TV aerial (check for coverage first!!) and you get this. FREE.

Buzz & Power comsumption & VAT Back clarifications,
By Tufty (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony Bravia KDL37EX403U 37-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD Internet TV with Freeview HD (Electronics)
This is a great TV - Service from Amazon was excellent as usual. On freeview HD (only 3 channels) its really good and shows what the set is capable of. I won't repeat what others have said but I will clarify two points raised, the buzz and the power consumption. Buzz: There is a known fault with this model: This is on a Sony Technical Bulletin Symptom: An audible squeal noise may come from the Inverter board, especially at low speaker volume level. The sound may slightly change depending on the selected picture mode. Cause: In the Inverter board, a lack of RTV between core and bobbin causes a gap which provokes the noise. Based on a visual inspection of these transformers, RTV was not properly applied although the quantity might be enough. Sony are well aware of the problem and have a new inverter board that is to be fitted. I would have thought that current production units already have this installed. As for the earlier unsold ones that are already in stock in shops that have not had the upgraded board, I'd imagine they're repaired as when the customer complains. In exactly the same way I did. What the customer now needs to be aware of is that the fault is a recognised inherent manufacturing fault and as such should be repaired free of charge even if they complain about it well after the warranty period has ended. Power consumption: I have measured this with a power meter. Normal viewing it draws 65 watts - Pretty good On Vivid (really bright) its draws 140 watts - still pretty good. On standby it draws 0.2 Watts - OUTSTANDING The red light is on but its hardly drawing any power at all which is excellent. Leave this on standby for 6 months and it will cost you less than 10p. Sony are doing a "Claim the VAT back" until 24 December 2010 so go to the Sony website and download your voucher. Despite the fact that this has a fault and its a bit of hassle to get this rectified I would buy this again at this great Amazon price and the VAT offer makes it even more of a bargain! EDITED I returned my buzzing set to Amazon for a full refund - Thanks Amazon I bought the same SONY 40" set from Amazon and its excellent - 5 stars No buzz and 4 HD channels via Emley Moor and yes you can see the much better picture on HD - Here's hoping for more HD free-view when Yorkshire goes fully digital in September 2011
