A BRAVIA LCD TV is no ordinary television. Design is sleeker, pictures are brighter, details clearer. All BRAVIA televisions are HD Ready with two HDMI connections as a minimum and come with an integrated digital tuner so there is no need for a set-top box to view Freeview TV and radio channels. After all advanced technology should simply mean technology that does more for you.
The stunningly designed 32" BRAVIA S5500U has HD Ready 720p capability, letting you enjoy cinema quality entertainment at home. Powered by the BRAVIA Engine 2 processor, it delivers superb picture quality with vivid colours and sharp edges. Dynamic Contrast up to 25000:1 gives the picture incredible depth and detail. And for true versatility, USB connectivity allows playback of both music and photos directly through your TV.
BRAVIA ENGINE 2 – Every picture is put through a digital perfecting process |
An LCD television creates pictures by switching millions of pixels on and off. In the S5500 this is driven by BRAVIA ENGINE 2, Sony’s fully digital video processor that uses a collection of unique technologies to significantly reduce noise and produce clear, vibrant, lifelike images, regardless of their source. For example, it reproduces black just as it appears in the real world to depict objects with impressive depth and realism. BRAVIA ENGINE 2 technology also significantly reduces the visual noise that can lead to blurring..
USB Media Player – Turns your BRAVIA into a giant digital media player |
The BRAVIA S5500 comes with a built-in USB Media Player that means you can connect devices directly to your TV. Content from your USB device is transferred directly to your BRAVIA TV, so you can listen to songs and see a slideshow of your favourite pictures.

Great TV, but the EPG is a bit Naff,

Had this TV a couple of weeks now. Had Bravia's before and this one is also good picture and sound wise. Only negative is the Electronic Programme Guide (EPG). If you want to look at the info of a programme on another channel the TV changes to that channel if you press the 'i' button - which is very irritating. Have an older 22" Bravia in the bedroom which doesn't do this so why change it and make it worse! Overall, happy with the TV, but loses 1 star owing to the rubbish EPG.

I bought this TV just over a month ago and I am still very happy with it!One of the main things I was looking for was a TV that had a black surround that wasn't like all the others that are around at the moment. All the others I saw had a shiny plastic surround so when watching, light reflects off of it and you can even see your reflection, which really distracts from the film!!! So when I found the Sony bravia, I was over the moon. It only has a tiny bit of shiny plastic right at the edge. The picture quality is amazing as is the sound, the only downside is the remote. Quite slow at changing channels and I can't use the Guide function as it goes to the channel when you just want to read the information. So we just buy a TV Guide (which we prefer anyway!), the main thing about a TV is how it performs when your watching it and you certainly cant fault this TV! Would definitely recommend. Having written this review and fallen in love with the TV, I'm sad to say it went wrong! Although it used to be slow at changing channel and going to the guide, when I pressed channel 1 it would freeze, if i pressed again it would just turn off. It did this when I pressed 1 and Guide and became more and more frequent. I have now changed to a Sony Bravia EX503 which we have now had for a year and so far seems excellent. Cant fault Sonys service.

A Typical Sony TV,

Firstly, I have noticed that prices of TVs recently have fallen considerably. In particular, the big makes such as LG, Samsung, and of course Sony. So we ordered this Sony mainly because of the price and as usual a fantastic service is provided by Amazon as it arrived within 2 working days, in perfect condition. The TV itself is stunning to look at, especially when placed on Levv - Glass Stand For Plasma & LCD TV Up To 32" Or 40kg - Black Glass With Chrome Legs, which is what we bought with it, and so I would fully recommend this combination. The picture quality and sound are also equally as good, both very crisp and clear. They both have pre-sets, like Cinema, Photo etc., but the one that's best by far in my opinion is 'Dynamic Surround' sound with 'Vivid' picture. The remote is also incredibly easy to use, with few buttons. Don't use the eco setting, as the picture quality is downgraded a lot. There are few negatives, but one could be that the EPG is a little slow and you cant set a timer, which is trouble for people with an analogue recording equipment. But overall this is a stunning TV, and probably one of the the best value ones on Amazon. I'd thoroughly recommend it, in fact you'd be mad to not even consider it when buying a 32 inch.
