Excellent when setup correctly, 5 July 2006
This review is from: Sony KDL-26S2010U - 26" Widescreen Bravia HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview (Electronics)
This is a fantastic piece of technology, marred only by a garish set of factory settings which makes the actual quality of picture somewhat of a lottery unless you get some help in callibration.
The manual is functional but only provideds superficial guidance. There are a multitude of options for adjusting the picture, most of which seem designed for making it look bright in a shop window under artifical light.
The big secret (I found in one review only) is to turn off most of the advanced options and enable power saving! This unlikely option completely adjust the output levels of everything. If you add in a reduced backlight and low MPEG noise correction this can be outstanding. The built in daylight sensor should also be enabled.
I know have great pictures from the built in Freeview, my PVR on RGB and my DVD on component video with progressive scan.
After a couple of shaky days when I wanted to take it back to the shop I am now very pleased with this purchase - and I have yet to get an HD signal!

Excellent, 24 July 2006
This review is from: Sony KDL-26S2010U - 26" Widescreen Bravia HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview (Electronics)
First of all, an excellent LCD TV.
Picture quality outstanding, once you have taken the time to change all of the options.
The two high quality RGB scart sockets allow connectivity of good quality dvd players. My Xbox (not 360) playing DVD's gives top notch quality playback although it took me a while to get the settings for the input right. The 'Noise Reduction' feature gives terrible motion blur on the set when playing fast action games (I suggest you leave it Off). However the 'MPEG Noise Reduction' feature is marvellous and does a brilliant job of cleaning up the picure.
The 'Blck Corrector', 'Contrast Enhancer', 'Clear White' and 'Live Colour' options (which can be found on Advanced.. when in Custom picture mode) are great added features to the Bravia and should all be set to about medium for all external inputs and TV.
I have yet to try the digital services or the HDTV but I am still thrilled with the set, recommend to anybody. But, be warned, it takes a long time to change the settings to get the most from the set.

A GREAT TV!!, 12 Oct 2006
This review is from: Sony KDL-26S2010U - 26" Widescreen Bravia HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview (Electronics)
I spent many of an age finding and reading reviews of this Sony LCD TV, although not many seem to exist the ones I managed to find persuaded me to part with my well earned cash and buy this tv, and I am glad that I did!
I was prepared for a rather bright factory setting from a previous review but after an hour or so I got a pretty perfect picture from the very user friendly on screen menus, i found that enabling a low power saving, a medium backlight, contrast, brightness and colour with a vivid picture mode brings a very crisp and clear picture.
As for the sound I hooked it to my expensive hi-fi system, but even this did not compare to the great sound produced by the tv's built in speakers!
All in all I am very pleased with this sony tv and I would recommend it to anyone, I dont think that you could buy another 26" tv of this quality in the £600 - £700 price bracket. Dont be fooled by the rather loud picture when looking through a shop window, part with your cash make your adjustments and enjoy.
