Not many items I buy genuinely impress me, but this is definitely one of them. It really does do dictation to text as it says, and it is light and easy to use. As with all Sony products there is a lack of leather case, but hey, the unit and the Dragon software are excellent, and it is really esay to use. If you need to take notes then this is the way to do it!

This is the first machine of this type I have used. So far I have found operating the dictating machine simple. Its small size and low weight make it very easy to slip into a pocket. I was very impressed with the accuracy of transcription using Naturally Speaking software. The only difficulty is that I have had to add all punctuation at the editing stage as I haven't 'got the hang of' saying what punctuation I need in the middle of dictating text.

We bought this device for our small business to capture the minutes of meetings which took place at our offices. The plan was that it would record and then transcribe the 'spoken word' into an editable text document via the supplied Dragon software which has improved immeasurably over the years. In fairness, it was a little unrealistic to expect Dragon to cope with so many different voices, often talking across each other. However, what did emerge was a crystal clear recording of everything that was discussed over 4 hours in crisp sharp, clearly audible tones. This made producing subsequent minutes and an 'action list' a breeze compared to former meetings. Highly recommended, stunning value for money, this little pocket recorder does exactly what it says on the box!

Had this gadget as a gift and using it to interview someone while they are wearing a tie-clip microphone. Works as advertised and using the Dragon software it saves me tons of writing as the interviews are quite lengthy. Controls are easy to use and it's small enough to be unobtrusive.

At this price, no complaints. If the display had been backlit it would have been helpful. Recognition software has come a long way, it,s now almost up to you how good it is.

Christmas present for my son, needed for Uni lecture etc., has good sound quality, easy to operative, with Dragon voice to to text should be very helpful and save a lot of time and will jog the memory of something you may have missed or forgotten when in the lecture, happy with purchase so far. Would recommend. Delivery from Amazon once again excellent.

My husband bought me this product for 2 purposes: firstly, to record lengthy voice notes to save myself having to type up lots of notes when studying; and secondly to use when I am working with people I am coaching. The dictaphone itself is well built and easy to use - great to know. But the magic is in its interaction with the Dragon Dictation software. After a little bit of training, this transcribes my voice notes astonishingly accurately - and I use all sorts of specialist technical language.

I have used Dragon Dictation and Siri on my ipad, but they are nowhere near as accurate as the combination of the Sony IC recorder and Dragon Dictation on my laptop. This is a great product.

The dictaphone is fantastic.

But my experience of dragon is not like others' on here. Interviews are hopeless (and if you search dragon's site it says it will be so as it can only handle one person's voice). Having trained the machine for 16 extra minutes over the recommended 4 min set up plus all the document scanning, I thought I could get round this by re-dictating my interviews in one voice. Nope still far too poor even with maximum accuracy on.

Ok it gets some of it right but I think it'd be just as quick and less frustrating to use the traditional way of transcribing, and likely more accurate.

If you buy it don't expect it to be anything like the clever kit banks etc use to recognise your speech on the phone.. you have been warned. Oh and the training text it gives you is appallingly laid out and difficult to read, and I have 20:20 vision.
