2.0 out of 5 stars A gadget, but not a big step forward!, 30 Jan 2007
By S. Evans (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This device works, but ... it works reliably over only a short range (maybe 5 metres). It needs line of sight (almost as if it was an infra-red device) - for instance, walking through the beam interrupts transmission. No other bluetooth device should be in the same building or inteference wrecks the data transmission.

Its application is a bit restricted since it has to be connected to a Line-In point for recieve and a headphones point for transmit. No firewire or USB options. So basically its a reciever designed to be connected to your hi-fi and not much else! In fact I haven't yet found a use for its transmission option. Hi-fi to laptop maybe, but why would you do that? MP3 to bluetooth headphones maybe.

The stand supplied is a complete design failure!! Its very light and the mains cable is routed under the stand - thus the natural flex in the cable always makes the device fall over within seconds - don't Sony field test their toys? I've had to blu-tack the device in place! Uh tacky ...

Finally, the power pack is big and clumsy - rather defeating the object of the unit's tiny dimensions.

In summary - nice but dim. Kind've sums up Sony these days - a company that seems to have lost the plot.

3.0 out of 5 stars New use for transmitter function, 19 Jul 2008
By Dr. Anthony Hanwell (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Your only reviewer to date can't think of a use for the transmitter function. Well I can and it is just what I have been seeking. I am about to take delivery of the latest generation hearing aid which is Bluetooth equipped. (There's a lot of us older generation about!) Connecting this Sony device to the headphone socket of my TV should enable me to get high quality TV sound direct without the need (over the past ten years) to wear infra red headphones. I'll report later on the results.

4.0 out of 5 stars Neat little receiver, 24 Nov 2008
By Stephen Griffiths (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this recently to team up with my Sony NWZ-A829. I connected it to my Hi-Fi amp to enable listening to the Walkman through the Hi-Fi. The receiver is very small and neat. It sits on the shelf next to the amp. Easy to set up with clear instructions and connects very efficiently once you have initialized the two. A previous reviewer was critical of the "line of sight" aspect of reception. I have to agree with that. There is a definite tendency to lose the signal if you come between the transmitter and receiver for any length of time. For me it's not a nuisance but I could imagine that there would be situations were that could be annoying. Comparing a CD track with the equivalent Bluetoothed MP3 track from the Sony NWZ-A829 shows some degradation but this is hardly a surprise. Sound is OK for casual listening. Otherwise a nice neat bit of kit.
