This camera is by no means the be all and end all but at £1000ish it's fantastic. The image quality is incredible and it handles low light pretty well. Though there aren't many manual controls, generally if you pre-set the exposure, white balance etc. you won't have a problem and the assignable ring is enough to get by with.

I bought this camera about 6 months ago and use it for music video production and those I've worked for have been blown away by the quality. Though the body of the camera may feel a little light and plasticky, it does wonders for client confidence. If someone sees me walking around carrying this camera they assume I'm a professional and it's great to see their faces light up when I pull it out of a bag to start shooting.

Honestly, for the price, this is the best video camera around that I could find

My company bought 2 of these when they first came out a couple of years ago (against my advise)and I have to say that I was right and within 3 months we had bought second 2 sony Z1s. The problem isn't the picture which is very good quality. Unfortunately I just hate the rest of the comera. It feels cheap and very plastic, when compared with other cameras I have use. I come from a world of practicality and the Sony HVR HD100U fails at this completely. The controls are not very well laid out and you keep having to go into menus to change stuff. I felt this was a turkey of a camcorder when it came out and now with cameras like the canon 5Dmk2, or 7D, plus a wealth of better quality camcoreders on the market a much less price, the Sony should not be touched with a barge poll.
