Working as a professional this might at first seem an odd little unit to add to my kit. Certainly as a camcorder mounted light, it is limited in that you can't angle it down slightly to converge the beam with the lens axis.
BUT.. add a long life L-type Sony battery and you have a super little light which can be slipped into a tight space for extra illumination and will run for several hours. I recently filmed on board a ship under construction and the lighting engineer brought redheads and dedos which were the workhorses. But this little beauty was regularly popped into conduits to light the faces of workers, hand held or gaffered to provide a fill light and even to highlight small areas or as a kicker. Swichable for 10w or 20w it delivered enough light to be of real value to get the job done. Don't leave home without one in your camera kit. You never know!

Great product - saved our bacon in a dark filming environment. Very bright, a good back to have in your bag. It runs off of its own battery though so you will need another one in addition to the other sony battery on the camera itself.

I all ready had one of these lights, but needed another one to give a more even spread of light.
Interestingly, the new model accepts the NPF range of batteries (the larger ones), rather than the slightly smaller range.
Not a problem when you have dozens of each - but you need to be aware of this before you order for the first time.
Used in conjunction with some decent reflectors, you can acheive some very nice, soft under-lighting on people's faces, which is extremely flattering!
The other thing I have used this light for is as a torch when walking along a river bank at night!
(I might even try it on my bike!)

It needs a separate battery
This is a great light but it is not clear from the description that this light needs a separate battery to operate. I had assumed that it would take it's power from the camera. Read more
