Stores all your HD movies

No need to worry about running out of storage space. The CX700VE includes a huge 96GB of built-in Flash Memory for storing up to 39 hours of high definition video footage (in HD LP mode). Of course, you can get even more simply by inserting an optional SD card or Memory Stick into the camcorder.

Create your masterpiece in high definition

Step up to super smooth, intensely detailed HD movie making with pin-sharp pictures, deep contrast and natural colours. HD recording using AVCHD (Audio Video Compression for HD) captures five times the detail of standard definition in Full HD 1920 x 1080. However, the camera has the capability of recording up to a maximum bit rate of 28MBps. (The camera does have the 28Mbps mode but it is not supported by AVCHD). What’s more, with 1920x1080/50p recording, CX700VE films at an exceptional 50 Full HD frames per second in progressive mode for the clearest possible footage.

Catch every detail

This sophisticated camcorder uses a high sensitivity Exmor R™ CMOS Sensor designed to capture detail-packed images even in low light. Shoot at dawn, dusk or in dimly lit rooms and you’ll see none of the graininess or fuzziness of some inferior camcorders. The 29.8mm wide angle G lens covers around twice the area of a standard camcorder lens with 10x optical zoom and 14x extended zoom to catch impressive close-ups and far away panoramas.

No shake shooting

You’ll never need worry about hand shake while shooting with the CX700VE as this camcorder includes Optical SteadyShot with Active Mode, the definitive solution for stable recordings even while walking or zooming in. Optical SteadyShot™ with Active Mode image stabilization lets you capture smooth handheld video from wide angle to full telephoto shooting with best-ever ‘3-way’ camera shake correction at all zoom settings. Ideal when touring cities or capturing sports action.

Beautiful stills

As well as taking super-sharp video, you’ll also be able to capture some finely detailed still photos courtesy of a built-in 12.3 megapixel camera. One solution for all your imaging needs.

Exmor R CMOS sensor reduces image noise even in low light for exceptional image quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sony HDRCX700VEBDI Camcorder 29 Sep 2011
By Mod72M
Have found this camera great for not only point and shoot mode but experimenting with speed/aperture/focus functions etc etc which add to ones creativity ability.
Dislikes...well the manual button to set manuel focus etc is set by the lens Is ok but not so accessible with lens hood on. Has viewfinder which many cams today don't have and I think is essential.Would have been good if instead of being fixed it could also have pivoted. Manual tele focus would have been good as well but may be now getting picky ! Overall suburb picture quality. Wouldn't recommend if you just want to point and shoot .A lot cheaper models out there. On the other hand if you like the idea of the creativity functions.go for it !

5.0 out of 5 stars Camera working well 27 Sep 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Now used for 5 months and the camera is an excellent product. The only fault is the viewfinder focus adjustment that needs continuous tweeking. I have been using top format 1080 50P and the final Blue Ray videos using Sony Vegas Suite 11 puts all my previous DVD'S into the 'Dark Ages'. Just Outstanding.

I was happy with everything about this camcorder until I noticed that pictures were very often out of focus on the left of frame when using manual focus indoors. I have worked with TV cameras professionally for 30 years so I checked it with test charts. It was obvious that the lens did not stay in focus throughout the zoom range and it was far worse on the left.

In bright daylight the reduced aperture gave greater depth of focus and so concealed the fault, but it was always there in lower light.

This is obviously not acceptable in a camcorder with so many claims for high picture quality.

I sent it back and Amazon instantly replaced it. The replacement had exactly the same problem!
I sent that back and the only option Amazon offered then was a refund which they made very quickly.

I still wanted to buy this model so I asked Amazon to investigate and tell me when it was safe to buy again.

Eight weeks later after many emails, they said that they could do nothing and suggested I should contact Sony.

When I found the right Sony department, a further 2 weeks of emails with them only led to them claiming that this is "normal behaviour for a camcorder". Unfortunately for them, this is very much my subject area and I know they are wrong.

Reluctantly, I will now have to buy a Canon HFG10 or Panasonic HDC-TM900.

I'm giving it only one star because I could not possibly live with that fault.
If it wasn't for the fault though, I would have given it five!
