Formula One 06 features the ability to Network Play between PlayStation 2 and PSP. This means players can now compete online across platforms to see who the fastest Formula One 06 racer is. In other words, if you own the PlayStation 2 version of the game and your friend owns the PSP version, you can still compete on the same circuit!
For the first time, the experienced Studio Liverpool development team has been hard at work on both titles, to ensure the 2006 games remain innovative and fresh.

I thought F1 Grand Prix was brilliant but this is 10 times better. I was instantly hooked and the game is sooo much fun. It includes all the F1 drivers, teams and tracks. Sony have done an excellent job and the new qualifying system is fantastic, you really feel the pressure to get through the knock-out system. Another thing is the graphics are so realistic and the game is easy to pick up and play. A good addition is career mode, this wasn't in F1 grand prix and this enables you to play through five seasons, from test driver to world champion.
If there was a problem it would be that as you move up a level from easy to medium or medium to hard the drivers go 4 seconds quicker than the level you have just been on. So if you were a second quicker your know three behind.

Although there is no multiplayer (which it says there is) this is a good game when you get into it. The graphics are better than F1 Grand Prix and the on screen graphics are also better (includes graphics that are seen on TV). It is a much more realistic compared to the last F1 game including race accidents, oil spillages, retirements and more realistic crashes. As usual it includes this years rules, qualifying format, drivers and teams with in race commentary from Martin Brundle and James Allan. Compared to the last years version it lacks features (such as multiplayer, TV mode and scenarios) is does include career mode in which is very good.
For beginners there are a number of features to help set your car up, to take the right racing lines and help braking and steering. For advanced players you can switch these of and set your own car up.
Overall the game isn't the best F1 game, but as a single player game for the PSP it can be fun to play. If you liked last years PSP F1 game as a single player game then I would recommend it.

I bought my psp and formula 1 06 at the same time and like most people, think that formula 1 97 on the good old ps1 was the best game of this genre by far, especially for pure speed and realism.
I cant really understand why people compare ps2 versions to psp version as its obvious of the limits of the psp compared to a major console so you have to go with the hardware you have and the game formats for it. (it cant be too long before sony release a psp2 as the psp/ps2 same game comparisons can sometimes be very dire indeed!)
However, formula 1 06 is a great game with great speed and graphics, superb sound and totally addictive, and like all f1 games, sometimes very frustrating. The circuit backgrounds are outstanding, of course at monaco, but also at cucuits like china where the main stands have all the detailed space age grandstands visible.
Its a bit crazy that i became world champion in my first season at super aguri and also a shame that winning the title after hours and hours of playing isnt rewarded with even a little cut scene (im pretty sure we all like completing games partly to see what the gamemakers have in surprise for us at the end).
Like another reviewer said, its crazy that the medium difficulty setting is 4 seconds quicker per lap and i cant honestly see me qualifying any higher than 21st in every race. Also if you change to a 'top team' the speed or handling of the car is no diferent to the bottom teams so theres no incentive to take up a contract offer from a top team as it offers no incentive.
Its in my top 3 psp games so far, maybe my favourite as im a huge fan of driving games.
Buy it, you will probably get it at agood price now too!
