4.0 out of 5 stars great little smartphone 2 Aug 2010
By Mahesh VINE™ VOICE
This phone isn't called mini for nothing! It has all the essential features of smartphone without being bulky and expensive.
Pros-
Very light and pocketable
Sensitive touchscreen
Speedy internet and navigation(better than even galaxy s)
Growing android market
Fantastic loud speakers
Great call quality
Comes with extra colour cases

Cons-
Not great in bright sunlight
Display not as sharp as other smartphones
Not much customisation in terms of background etc
Battery lasts just over a day with browsing and few calls
Older version of android so not all features as on htc desire and others

I've typed this review on the same phone ! How cool is that ;-)
If you are looking for a tiny phone that can do most of the smartphone functions then this is the one. You won't regret. Some reviewers have mentioned about not being able to change some settings however you can disable internet and you can make easily and add contacts. It's just a matter of knowing how it works on this phone.the phone also comes with a manual on it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could do better - and still a pain 15 July 2010
A great looking and lightweight phone (88g on the mini). And considering it's actually a smartphone all the better - gps, camera, video, wifi, 3g etc etc. and the android operating system. The screen is clear and bright and the functions are slick. But now for the downsides, and there are many! This phone is not setup to do anything well? I find it frustrating and some of the icons very confusing, all I want to do is make a call!! but you have to go through so many hoops by the time you get to the end you think..brilliant! I've made it to the end, now how did I do that? It's very much trial and error with many of the menu's! Not figured out how to "save a contact" yet - you know simple stuff. Using the internet is okay but you can only go back? not forward? and while navigating round the small screen you can easily catch some text and "off you" go to somewhere you never wanted to go! and I've only got small fingers. Youtube doesn't work despite it being an android phone? still waiting on a call back from the makers on that? WARNING - GET AN UNLIMITED INTERNET tariff with this phone, as I have yet to find a way to turn it off!??!? The camera is poor even though stated 5mp and there is no editing software included, the music player is basic and not very easy to find your favourite album. The included pc compatible is useless too? I intended to re-load all my stuff from a previous sony ericsson phone but sony have decided it's no longer "Compatible" and I basically must start from scratch! You no longer store your personal phone book on your pc but must setup an online account.rubbish. This phone is not user friendly. But looks nice

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple smartphone! 13 Feb 2011
The Xperia X10 Mini is a good phone. SE has simplified the UI quite extensively, to ensure it is usable on the small screen. I bought this for my Mom who isn't tech-savvy at all, but she loved it. A regular smartphone would have been overkill for her, but this was much simplified and turned out to be a good fit.

The phone has all the essential features, and they work very well. Camera is good, takes decent quality pictures as well as videos. The sound is good too, especially from the phone's speaker which often on phones isn't of good quality. The phone has an FM radio as well, which is a plus.

The phone does have some cons. A very visible one is that you can not change its theme. You are stuck with the white text on blue background, which isn't the most comfortable combination on the eyes. SE should have chosen a more contrasting combination since the theme was not changeable.

The (soft) keyboard is not QWERTY, as it would be impossible to type on the small screen with it. Unless you are a heavy user of texting or sending emails, it should not be a problem.

SE has recently announced that Xperia X10 Mini will not be receiving any more Android OS updates. The latest it will have is Android 2.1.

The package comes with 2 back covers - white and pink. It had a hands-free which also acts as an FM antenna. SE has moved away from their proprietary chargers, and this phone has a micro-USB slot and comes with a micro-USB to USB cable. The same cable can be used with the supplied mains adaptor for charging or to connect to a computer. It also contained screen protector, but was missing a pouch for the phone. I feel all touch screen phones should include a pouch by default in the standard package.

Overall a good purchase, if you are fine with the screen size and like a simplified interface.
