I've had this for 8 months now. Good points are:

Excellent battery life and charges quick.
Walkman feature is excellent, particularly good if you couple with bluetooth headphones so you don't have to worry about wires.
2MP camera takes decent shots.
Comes with a 1GB memory stick making all the features very useable.

In summary - does everything I want and need from a phone and I've been very happy with it.

The Sony Ericsson 850i

Follows the theme of all walkman phones. This phone is very good.

I upgraded from a SE 810i, my first experience with SE phones, after Nokia. I still find the 810i a really lovely phone.

However, I am very much appreciating the 850i. The slider unit works very well. I liked the fact that by closing the slider, during a call, would not disconnect the call. Makes handling the call, more compact on the closed phone.

It is a chunky phone, compared with many on the market today. But you will know this by handling the phone in the shop, or seeing good pictures of the phone. I prefer a phone that you can get hold of. The 850 has a good feel to it. It rests nicely in the palm of the hand, when playing the Walkman player. The slider action closes very neatly.

All the features work very well. Amost everything now expected in mobile phones is present and works fine. As you would expect from a SE phone. The camera is good, but I have not compared it to other phones. In fact, my only niggle is, and this is just a really personal niggle rather than anything that detracts from the phone, is the menu designsThe graphics don't look as sophistacted as those of the 810 and other phones I have used. They just look, `ordinary`. So not really a problem. This one has a 1GB slot card. Which should give a lot of song space.

What I think SE have done with this phone, as well as making it a very likeable slider phone, is to elaborate the WALKMAN feature. This is amazing. Copying from CD's from computer, via the intalled SE disc to phone feature, is a doddle. The sound is awesome, and a neat graphic equaliser, is available if needed. The feature, I am especially enjoying is making up playlists. This is comparitvely easy, (even for an oldie like me) and gives quick access to songs that you just fancy to listen to right at that moment. Try listening with a good pair of earphones. Awesome. But a fairly decent pair of ear pods, is still ideal for on the move. The ones supplied arn't too bad, considering.

Its a super phone. Maybe in a years time, it will seem a little outdated, due to its chunkyish design, (which I like) but hey, by then, chunky may be back as the `in thing`. To me, this phone will be the `in thing` for a long time.

This is my 3rd Walkman phone, which started with the original W700i. The W850I is extremely well made and sturdy. The slider works well and keys are a very good size, which makes texting very easy. Sound from the Walkman is great and the phone is also recognised using the USB with a Mac if you want to transfer music or photos, where as some Sonyericsson phones are not (the new W890i). The contacts phone book is also compatible with Outlook and easy to download via bluetooth with Mac or PC. It is so easy to use in every aspect that I bought one for my girlfriend, who always moans about usability of past phones, but loves this one. The fact this is still around and just as expensive over a year later, says it all.
