having been a 'nokia head' for years i have tried several phones with no avail, i looked around for a cheap mp3 player too, looking in tech mags, i came across the w800i, which had everything i could wish for, not long after, i got a white w810i, and i was in love, a phone, with good memory, lots of extras, stylish too, a great mp3 player built in too, its simple to transfer tracks over too with a USB lead, one tip too though, get a bigger memory card (memory stick pro) sizes go up to 4gb - forget the ipod nano and other phones, this has it all :)

I bought this phone on contract right when this phone came out. AND WOW what a great phone. The most important issue to me is always the UI (User Interface) and SONY has got it right always. The phone is very easy to navigate (Samsung D500 are a nightmare of options and windows- blah!), and the menu system is clean and the shortcut keys especially the left scroll (circuler silver panel in the middle) which has the SMS function is superb and handy. I know its a kinda rip off from the ipod but the design really works.

Its really light as well, and you do not feel that you have a cellular in your pocket. the battery life is great but decreases when watching videos.

Its a plus being a Mac User because you can use iSync to keep your phone addressbook synced with Mac Addressbook, as well as using the phone via bluetooth to surf the internet took me seconds. NO SOFTWARE NEEDED. (I tried it on my Windows PC because the accompanying software comes with for PC and well it was a nightmare).I also used iSquint to convert all my videos to 176x144 at a video bitrate of 200kbps - the quality is great when viewed normal mode but when viewed fullscreen the video just strecthes so i do not recommend it. 1 hr movie usally came out about 20MB, absolutely nothing - I recommend buying a 1GB MS Duo Pro card. And there are so many websites with goodies for the W810 that I feel like little boy in Toyshop. Oh yeah get the USB2 Card reader transfering files to your Mac takes ages over BT until Apple sorts out the USB2 Cable software (The USB cable provided does not work properly with Mac OS X 10.4.7 - does not unmount)

I recommed:

1. 1GB MS Duo Pro card. Shop around

2. 15-1 Universal USB Card reader

3. Salling Clicker for iTunes

4.

I only got this phone yesterday but already I am so glad I did not switch to Nokia or Samsung. This phone is very stylish without being too flashy, and it is very easy to navigate. The MP3 sounds great (the best I've ever heard on a mobile), and it's really easy to transfer tracks onto it using the software. The only minor annoyance I find with this is that it takes a bit of time, but with the drag and drop simplicity of it you can't fault it really. The radio with RDS is very handy to have, and it's really simple to tune it and save stations. The camera is excellent, if a bit confusing at first, and the internet is extremely quick. Mine came with a 512MB Pro Duo memory stick which costs £15 by itself, and also a very nice set of headphones. I find them a bit small, but that might just be becuase I have big ears.

All in all a class act, and definately on a level playing field with the Samsung D900 and far superior to the Nokia 5300 Xpress Music. Plus, it's got that ultra cool Walkman logo on it in orange ;)

I've had this phone for 8 months and it excels in all of its applications! It is extremely durable ( like most Sony Ericssons ) and very fast at processing, it's great for music, games, ebooks, etc,,, . if you want a good phone for a low price then this is what you should buy!

I bought the phone late last year and have been using quite a lot. I am extremely happy with the phone. It has a camera that exceeded my expectations, a music player that sounds fantastic. Oh, whilst also being able to make calls... ;-)

It is smaller than I expected, a phone that is very light and can easily fit into the pocket. It has a number of buttons to control the music player as well as having a shortcut key to the music player. Music pauses automatically when a call is received (or you're making one) and starts again following the end of the call.

I'm not sure about the battery life as it appeared that it ate through mine very very quickly. I had to return the original battery for a replacement from Amazon (which was handled very well by Amazon). But this could be down to my use of it. It may also be worthwhile investigating whether there is a longer life battery on offer from Sony Ericsson that might give it a few more miles of juice in between charges.

I'm also going to investigate the charger that has the ability to charge the device and gives you the ability to carry on listening to my tunes through the same connection port. The original charger in the box doesn't allow you to do this.

Overall I would recommend the phone for its features, size and music player. Now i can leave the iPod at home & carry one device.

I got this phone in july 2007 becuase pretty much everyone who'd owned one said it was a hell of a phone. Ive had it for 2 months now and id agree. It is now quite an old phone (18months), but even so, it turns on faster than a k800i, opens colourful menus quickly. The interface is easy to navigate through and you can use the number/letter keys instead of the direction buttons to work your way through numerous options.
It plays music very well and with the right equalizer settings, can rival a stand alone mp3 player. One issue ive found is that the volume cannot go up especially high- it is loud enough but doesnt have that extra bit of volume which can overcome loud traffic and headwinds when riding or jogging without losing some of the music. Why would you want to have the music that loud anyway really?! Also, similarly annoyingly, at the highest 2 volumes the loud parts of mp3 music gets reduced so there are troughs in the sound.
The caller volume isnt all that high, but high enough to hear the other person easily.
The orange half moon button on the left of the directional pad takes you to the walkman function. Even if you're in the middle of looking at notes or the calender this button will take you directly to the music. This won't work when you're using the camera though.
The camera is above average for a 2006 phone and is still good now, at 2MP. I also own a k800i so the camera was naturally a let down, but even so, the w810i gives good daytime shots, clear and crisp with accurate colours, but the night time shots are grainier and noisier although still pretty useful. There is an LED which lights up when you want it to. This doubles up as a general white light, probably as useful as a proper camera flash.
