4.0 out of 5 stars Too soon, Sony, 7 Aug 2006
By
Thomas Ekman (Sweden) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Sony Ericsson M600i Sim Free Mobile Phone (Electronics)
You released the phone way too soon. I have performed 2 or 3 software upgrades on the phone already, and I think this is what you would expect to do in a full calendar year, not in about 2 months. Despite having fulfilled all "obligations" regarding SW upgrades, the phone still hangs, most often in connection with internet activity. I think this happens when it loses 3G connection and switches to 2G, leaving one application without an internet connection at all.

The accessories should be available, at least to a major extent, by the release date. To date, there is not (at least in Sweden) an official phone case that goes together with all buttons, but I think this is something a lot of manufacturers share today.

I see a major tendency to push the box to the shop as early as possible, and let customer support handle the after-market issues that naturally occur.

I was unsure whether I should rate the phone as having 2 stars for its factual bugs and deficits or 4 stars for its intented use, which is excellent. Let's move on to part two of this review: intended usage:

For those who would like to do away with a Palm PDA, want a (semi)full-size keyboard and email support with both POP3 and IMAP4 and a MP3 player with quite decent sound, why not buy this one? They will most likely solve the software bugs soon. If the add support for WMA, I won't have to rerip my entire music collection too! Good price.
