Product Description

This new portable hands-free combines live FM radio in stereo with practical features which make it easy to handle calls. The portable hands-free is one of the most popular accessories among mobile phone owners and a personal stereo is probably one of the most common consumer products. The HPR-20 combines these two functions so consumers can enjoy listening to the radio while never missing a call, therefore continuing to be entertained, relaxed and informed. The HPR-20 weighs only 20 grams, so it is convenient to carry and the phone can remain in a pocket or bag at all times. When a call is coming through, the radio is muted and the call can be answered. When the call is finished, the radio comes back on. The HPR-20 radio and control unit connects to the phone with a cord and comes with a shirt-clip and two stereo earpieces. It has a blue-light display, in which the frequency, channel, volume, channel preset and bass level are shown. The Sony Ericsson HPR-20 is compatible with Sony Ericsson GSM-phones, as well as the most recent Ericsson phones.

good, but... 2 Jan 2004
as the other reviews say, this really is a cool piece of kit to use. for portable fm radio you don't really get much better. even the wires around the neck are longer than the handsfree that comes with the p800/p900, which means i'm allowed to move my head without the earphones falling out of my ear.

however, as a p800 user, i am gutted that this headset doesn't let you listen to media the way that the handsfree that comes with the phone does. so you can listen to the radio, and have a conversation with it, but the hpr-20 doesn't let you listen to your mp3s/oggs/mp4s that play from the phone. which means i still need to carry the standard handsfree, which is all a bit silly really, considering it's £30.

The Sony Ericsson HPR-20 Stereo FM Radio is a fantasic devise. IT has crystal clear reception, unless you get the leads tangled up together.
IT is well wrth the £30 price tag that is on it. IT delivers entertainment where you are, and is also very light in your pocket, making it easy to transport around.#
Verdict:
It is as good reception as a normal radio
It is easier to carry round

Bad Point: Only FM, no MW. But only radio 5 live on it. The rest is bollocks.

Overall: 5/5, 10/10 it gets full marks whatever the rating is out of!

Neat and simple to use (once the multiple key press sequences have been mastered), attractive and stylish. I use mine on the train (Weymouth line into Waterloo) and it works pretty well in what are admittedly fairly poor reception conditions. It's really frustrating that you listen to the radio on these earphones but have to switch to the ones supplied with the phone to play MP3s. The connector is rather fiddly to engage before you get the knack of it, and I've had some problems with intermittent contacts. But overall perfectly usable and reasonable value for £30
