Excellent PHONE - ergonomically designed numeric keypad and high usability,
By DR DRM (London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony Ericsson Cedar Sim Free Mobile Phone - Black (Electronics)
I wanted a new phone to replace my old 2G phone with large spread out keys and easy to use as a phone. The new Ericsson Cedar has an excellent numeric keypad with shaped keys which make it really easy to use with one hand and without having to select keys using fingernails as is often needed on small keyboards. The shape of the keys seems much better to me than those on the companion Elm even though their keys are the same size - and a bit bigger than on the C902. Also the navigation keys are easy to use. Furthermore all keys are white on black which makes them easy to read and the action of all keys is so positive that there is no need to switch on the click sound. Functionally it is very similar to the earlier C902 though with a 2MB rather than a 5MB camera. It also feels lighter and more comfortable in the hand than the C902. The phone has 3G as well as 2G though the phone can easily be switched to 2G only mode to conserve battery life when fast internet access is not required. Email works well and the phone has a perfectly good internet browser for light use. The phone can be used as a 3G modem (at 460kbs I think) via a microsUSB cable and all necessary drivers are downloaded directly from the phone hardware (like most broadband data dongles) . The screen is good and brightness can be set at 50% (the lowest setting) to conserve battery life in most cases except perhaps outdoors on a really bright day. The battery life is reasonable - about a week with a short call or two a day and checking of email and internet headlines for for several minutes a couple of days a week. This is first and foremost an excellent PHONE for calls and texts - much easier to use than the touch screen devices - the addition of 3G and internet (as well as media player, camera and 'apps' for those that want them) does not detract from usability as a phone - which is exactly what I wanted.

i have had several locked 3g phones and needed an unlocked 3g for taking abroad and for using simcards for oversea calling.it works ok for this.battery life is good for this 3g(i use 3mobile) phone lasting over 5 days comparing to others.yahoo, msn messenger and checking email accounts is easy to access but no skype at the moment although it says they are working on it.i still think is worth buying as it takes any 2 or 3g simcard and is of good quality.

sony ericsson cedar,
This review is from: Sony Ericsson Cedar Sim Free Mobile Phone - Black (Electronics)
good basic phone for work purposes, in the building trade so nothing fancy needed just calls, texts and occasional pictures for quotes etc.Phone does exactly as i need it to, good size buttons that nearly suit 'builders fingers'! although do still hit wrong ones, unless they start making buttons man size think this will be an issue with any phone! appears 'joy stick' better than on previous sony's so hopefully wont pack up after 6 months because of dust. So far, so good!
