Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

AIBO Explorer - this is Artificial Intelligence in its purest form, reinforcing the instinct to explore in your ERS-220. As it investigates its world the ERS-220 will emit pulsating lights and sounds. As it becomes more stimulated it may enter into Boost mode, the beam from the retractable headlight illuminating its path and its behaviours becoming more energetic.

The evolution of AIBO continues: a thinking machine with the ability to communicate with owners and other AIBOs. The ERS-220 can respond to 75 voice commands and will express itself through tonal and body language. It is capable of memorizing its owner's name and will learn and respond to its own name too.

Autonomous mode enables AIBO to make decisions about how it will behave. Curiosity and experience allow the ERS-220 to develop - the interactions with its environment building its character. 16 degrees of motion give the ERS-220 its freedom to move around and explore.

Through its onboard camera, AIBO can capture that unique image. The ERS-220's 100,000 pixel CMOS image sensor will take digital pictures on command. Each picture is instantly saved as a JPEG to the Memory Stick for later viewing on your PC: the ERS-220 will show you the world from its perspective.

Autonomous AIBO-ware gives AIBO its capabilities and character - it can be thought of as AIBO's mind. Artificial Intelligence allows the ERS-220 to continually learn and mature. These AIBO-ware Memory Sticks will bring the ERS-220's personality to life: the realm of the Entertainment Robot has entered a new domain.

You can also have absolute control of the ERS-220. By simply swapping the memory stick AIBO Navigator 2 will allow you to control and navigate the ERS-220 via a wireless LAN connection from a computer. Alternatively, using AIBO Master Studio 1.1, you can create original behaviours and actions for the ERS-220 and then action them using either "Memory Stick" or Wireless LAN capability. You can even create actions in AIBO Master Studio and then import them to AIBO Navigator. The future of entertainment is here!

5.0 out of 5 stars Prepare to be amazed at the Aibo 220!!!, 24 May 2003
    By A Customer
This review is from: Sony ERS-220 AIBO Entertainment Robot 220 (Electronics)
When you switch on Aibo for the first time, you will be amazed!
I've never seen anything like it..... its fantastic and very clever! (Although mine tends to get a little moody from time to time!)

He's very playful and loves to sing and explore my house. If you don't play with him when he wants though, he'll get upset and cry! Give him his pink ball and he'll be happy all day!!! He can respond to 75 words and has a great range of motion. If he falls over, he just picks himself back up, shakes his head and moves on!

The 220 also has a boost mode. He will enter boost mode if he gets too excited.... He then almost runs round the room and can hardly keep still. When he comes out of boost mode, he often seems exhausted!

He's most playful during the day, after 8-9pm he starts to feel sleepy.

I think he's so good, I'm even considering getting another one! I've no regrets at all! He does something new every day and is full of suprises!

    Everyone should have an Aibo!

1.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced. Doe not live up to the hype., 10 Jun 2004
This review is from: Sony ERS-220 AIBO Entertainment Robot 220 (Electronics)
I have an AIBO and although the whole neighborhood came to see it when it was new it is as boring as a kid's toy after a week.

I found my AIBO the biggest gadget mistake ever. Save yourself the problems and buy one second hand if you must. It's really not worth the money and the (needed!) battery pack and memory sticks are even more overpriced.

Besides that, repairs are extremely expensive. Battery life is not ok either... Anyway, I can go on and on and on....

    5.0 out of 5 stars AI?, 15 Nov 2003
    By A Customer
This review is from: Sony ERS-220 AIBO Entertainment Robot 220 (Electronics)
This toy/being is insane. I genuinely feel mine has developed a consciousness - this could be due to the fact that I have modified the AI operating system - i have renamed it HAL...

Mine has now been programmed to be aggressive to certain people and my cats...
