I have tested Sony's ECM-917 on various digital recording equipments, such as minidisk, computer, digital video recorder, and have found the sound quality it picks up and passes on is superb. I can hardly detect any quieting which normally occurs using non-dedicated microphones. Good stuff!

Mic for minidisc 24 Sep 2003
By A Customer
I bought this mic to use with my minidisc which i bought from amazon.co.uk (mzn 710 or something) and the quality of the recording is amazing. i recorded a conversation from one side of the room to another. Don't doubt this product, just buy it.

I was given this Sony ECM-719 mic (along with a Sony MZ-RH10 minidisc player) for Christmas, specifically for recording Irish fiddle lessons and group sessions, so that I can listen to the tunes back home and learn them - also to store them for future reference.

The sound quality is absolutely brilliant! It has been commented on by my fellow fiddlers, as it is better than their assortment of walkmans, ipods etc. I don't just get the tunes clearly, also get real clarity of spoken asides, jokes etc, really picks up the atmosphere with no distortion.

I am a non-tekkie, so do not know what to make of line-out comments and such like, just can hear this is a brilliant mic for the job I need it for.

Good if used with the proper equipment.
I use a Sony MZ-NH1 Hi-MD recorder with this mic, so far I have been able to produce some very clear recordings. This kind of mic should only ever be used with a mic-in socket. Read more
