Full Frame

The fixed lens compact camera with a 35mm full frame image sensor means you can capture every scene just as it is with the sharpest detail, richest colours and most intricate textures.

Fast, Bright, Perfectly Clear

Compose your shot through a Carl Zeiss Sonnar lens that's designed to capture every subtle shade of light. With a fixed focal length of 35mm and macro mode for a 20cm minimum focus, it's ready for portraits, intimate close-ups and detailed still life.

Natural in Twilight

Floodlit football, light shows at festivals, all clear and natural at dusk without you having to resort to the flash. Wide sensitivity from ISO 50 to 102,400 using Multi Frame Noise Reduction keeps everything natural, no matter how dim the light.

Time for Movies

That shot of a lion stalking wildebeest -- maybe as a movie? Try it with a quick flick of your finger. Smoothly adjust focus and exposure as you're shooting to capture just the right detail and light. All in Full HD at a choice of frame rates.

Palm-Sized, Pocket-Sized

A full frame camera that actually fits in your pocket. Just 482 grams with battery and memory card, it's light and small with a full frame sensor.

Take Control

Really easy to use with all the freedom to go manual, anytime you want. There's an aperture and focus ring right at your fingertips. Use the exposure compensation dial, exposure lock and custom button for total creative expression.

Full Frame

Every Tone and Texture

Fine blemishes on a face. Intricate textures on a tapestry. Silky strands in a leaf with beautiful bokeh. You only get this kind of detail with a wide dynamic range capable of picking out the subtlest, most delicate shades.

Right to the Edge

The fixed lens compact camera with a 35mm full frame image sensor captures every scene right to the very edge of each frame. Nothing left out, every detail perfectly preserved. And with a resolution of 24.3 effective megapixels, the Exmor CMOS sensor is more than twice the area of APS-C sensors in bulkier D-SLR cameras, enabling you to take high-quality pro shots.

Powered by BIONZ

Take full resolution burst shooting at up to five frames per second so you can capture that swooping buzzard or forehand volley without losing detail. Then when you're home, output your image in 14-bit RAW format for editing, developing and post-processing. All made possible by the powerful BIONZ engine.

Fast, Bright, Perfectly Clear

Versatile Lens

You want a lens that can do everything well from portraits and close-ups to shimmering landscapes and atmospheric street shots. The Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* is just that lens with a fixed focal length of 35mm and macro mode for a 20cm minimum focus. Its wide F2 maximum aperture lets you create beautiful bokeh effects too – try shooting sharply focused poppies in a blurred field.

Maximum Light

Dawn sunlight across a mountain peak or silvery surf in the glare of the afternoon sun. Wherever, whenever you're shooting, this lens captures bright, clear pictures with high contrast and less flare. It's a Sonnar, after all, derived from the German word for Sun.

Natural in Twilight

Fine Details Preserved

Rock festivals on a warm summer evening. Close in on the faces of the band and capture the raw energy and grit of playing live. The large sensor brings out every minute detail with wide sensitivity from ISO 50 in expanded mode to 102,400 using Multi Frame Noise Reduction. No flash required.

Time for Movies

So Cinematic

Sometimes it's a shot, sometimes a movie. And this camera lets you hop between the two with a casual touch of a button. Capture Full HD footage at either 50p/60p or 25p/24p (progressive) frame rates – at 24p, your scenes will be transformed into cinematic movies. Smoothly adjust focus and exposure as you're shooting to capture just the right detail and light, even at dusk. There's also a full complement of PASM exposure modes to create the perfect atmosphere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant and beautiful 7 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase
I have been using this for a couple of months now and I am seriously in love with this camera. It cost a lot, but the images it pumps out beautiful and brilliant. You can check out some of my (very amateur!) photos at kathmandustories.com. Believe me, in your hands I am sure it would do better!

In my experience this is a product that will improve your photography over time. I think as you get used to the fixed focal length this makes you focus your mind on what you want to shoot and how you want to capture it or portray it. I'm beginning to see in 35mm, if that makes sense. That said, a couple of times I would have preferred a wider angle or telephoto lens and this quality of image. But to get that would mean carrying a 1kg camera and a 1kg lens. This weighs 440g, and fits in a baggy pocket or simply hangs on a wrist strap with the lens cap off, waiting to snap a candid street shot. This really is DSLR quality in a small and light package - well worth investing in if that is what you are looking for.

The camera is solid and very well-made, as you'd expect for the price. The aperture ring on the lens works nicely, its really intuitive, and I spend most of my time living in aperture priority mode. I really like the look of pictures taken at f2-4, the background blur adds character and gives the pictures an almost 3D pop. Close ups sing with detail. Sometimes though, the focus misses, which is a real pain when it happens at a decisive moment. Shooting in raw and post-processing in Apple Aperture opens up huge creative options, and lets you rescue photos you thought were flops: the sensor captures a breathtaking dynamic range, at least in comparison with my previous camera (the Sony Nex5, itself a fine machine).

4.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Image Quality 25 July 2013
You certainly won't be disappointed with the image quality from this camera. It is jaw dropping. The Dynamic range available in RAW files is astonishing. The sharpness and contrast of the lens is up there with Leica lenses.
The build quality is excellent. It is quite hefty but built like a tank.
The AF speed is a little slow but it's ok. If you have ever used a Fuji X100 I would say it is similar in speed to that.
I really wish they had made it with a built in viewfinder. I bought the EVF separately as I consider it essential for me but the price of that and the other accessories is way over the top. This is why it gets a 4 star rating from me.
The price of the camera itself is expensive but when you consider what you would have to pay for a lens of this quality on a full frame body then it looks very reasonable.

This is an amazing camera - the lens and the sensor go together very well. Whilst the lens is 35mm, you can use the settings to make it 50mm which effectively means that you could get away with this as an all rounder - as long as you have the temperament for framing your pics and with those 24mp you can also crop very effectively too. The trade off in switchable lens for portability and quality has been so worth it for me. I'm now using this as my sole camera and it takes astounding pictures. The movie quality is good, perhaps not great with autofocus in low light - it does however greatly benefit from that lens and the neat feature of adjusting the shutter speed to give slower movement and a movie quality feel - check some examples on you tube or Stephen Huff's review.

£2500 rrp seems to be a steep price, but for what your getting I think it's ok - theres a full sensor in there and its portable with an amazing lens.
What I don't understand is how Amazon can be showing a price of over £3K - way higher than the rrp - that clearly is not value for money.

My review is to point out just how expensive Amazon are selling it for. Or not selling it as is probably the case at that price.
