The selection of race circuits is geographically and thematically comprehensive, taking in airports, Chinatowns, beach resorts and more. The choice of motors and drivers on offer, too, is healthily broad. And Arenas is one of those titles that satisfies with its unlockable features. There are plenty of rewards here for those who drive well.
Whether racing through a championship or competing in an every-car-for-itself American-style demolition derby--online or offline--the focal point of the action in Destruction Derby Arenas is forever that of damage. Which sets Arenas apart from most other driving games, and also gives it a compelling raison d'etre. Thanks to the power of the PS2 hardware, that damage can be pretty impressive; and thanks to the immediate gameplay it's pretty enjoyable too. --Jonti Davies

For once gameplay triumphs over graphics!,

This review is from: Destruction Derby Arenas (Video Game)
Too many titles these days are too intent on being graphical showcases, at the expense of gameplay.Though it may have had mixed reviews in the press, DDA stands up as an excellent game - particularly in single player mode, there is plenty to keep you occupied! Some of the game modes are only available when playing DDA online (for which you will also need the PS2 Network Adaptor and a Broadband connection) - Capture the Trophy, Pass Da Bomb, Speedway, etc. It is great to play online, but does suffer a bit from lag and thereby the crash physics are no way near as accurate as when playing offline - the lack of a US server has also stifled it's popularity, but that's not a fault of the game! The (offline) game itself has 5 bonus cars and an extra race track (The Dam) and destruction bowl (Rough Justice) to unlock. There are some great power ups, TNT being one that only you can utilise, but the real fun is just smashing and crashing other cars - in a bid to DESTROY them totally (in one of 3 ways - a skullcrusher, a gutwrencher or a flatliner). Console A1 is fairly good and they drive intelligently and aggressively. Each of the 20 cars (as can the bonus ones) also can be upgraded to stage 2 spec, which involves you winning 4 championships of 4 races each. That would take 400 games at least, so no complaints of longevity!

Smash 'em and crash 'em,
This review is from: Destruction Derby Arenas (Video Game)
Destruction Derby is a very good game, compared with its original it almost as good! Although the has lost its realism and has become a more arcade style, with power ups like, turbo's, repair (rather than going into the pits) and bonus points. The races are all set on streets and various sites rather than actual race tracks, which is where the game kind of loses its originality. But the game is full of unlockable characters, tracks and bowls, it does get quite tough in the harder levels, which makes the game very playable. I just want to go back for more!

Great Game,
This review is from: Destruction Derby Arenas (Video Game)
The single player mode is long, and after completing it with one person, you'll be wanting to come back to complete it again the next day with another car. Out of the 20 cars + 5 bonus cars theres about 6 different handling styles, so if you like the heavy drifting move outta my way car, or the light i can turn 90 degrees type its there. Even though it sais above 4 player multitap, it isn't. 2 player split screen is the most you can get unless you have the broadband set up (which i haven't). with choice of racing and smashing or just the old favourite "death bowl" where you smash your opponents in well designed arenas. Graphics are a vast improvement on previous titles and is a very fun and addictive game.
