Product Description

Product Description

The Sony DVP-S735D DVD Player provides outstanding picture and audio quality, a user friendly interface and a stylish design that integrates harmoniously within a Sony Home Cinema system. The new player integrates many new features that enhance video and audio quality as well as ensuring complete stability in playback quality. As well as its advanced DVD replay capabilities, the DVP-S735D is a very high quality CD player and meets the demands of discerning music lovers. The new player benefits from a stylish slim-line design, ensuring that the player will add to the aesthetic appeal and look completely at home in the most stylish house or apartment.

The player integrates a number of advanced features and operating characteristics not found in rival players. These include a Precision Drive base mechanism, featuring a Dynamic Focus optical pickup, a DSP (Digital Signal Processing) servo, an exclusive tilt servo and a high-speed stepping motor. These devices improve disc trackability, assuring accurate playback of both CD and DVD, as well as higher direct disc access speed, making scene selection as well as menu operation faster than ever. A new Digital Video Enhancer (DVE) function is provided for users with a taste for sharper picture contours. a Digital Video Equaliser lets the user adjust the video output to suit their requirements. Another innovative feature is the component video output provided to optimize picture output to projectors and other screens with component input capability.

The audio performance of the new DVP-S735D has been the subject of significant development and enhancement. The discerning audiophile consumer will find significantly enhanced functionality. Multichannel DTS decoding for DVD Video discs encoded in the Digital Theater Sound surround sound format is added to existing Dolby Digital and MPEG multichannel surround sound decoding. 96-kHz/24-bit digital audio output is available from this player, reinforced by a high-grade 13.2 Mbps wide-band optical output specification.

Other significant features of the DVP-S735P include customised parental control, improved variable speed control, Magic Pad - a sophisticated graphic user interface (GUI) shown on the TV screen for easy operation and rapid custom setting to suit the users needs. A Picture Navigation facility lets the user quickly and easily customise the player to their specific viewing requirement and then store and review these settings whenever required. A user-selectable sound feedback feature confirms the various settings made by the user. Finally, a playback memory stores the personal settings of up to 200 discs.

As a student, purchasing this player was a significant investment - and one which thankfully paid off. This is in fact my second DVD player, and once again I opted for a Sony. This lies not in my brand loyalty, but the fact that under comparison other brands can't seem to effectively compete. Sony's players feature incredible menu screens which put those on other players from top manufacturers such as Panasonic to shame. And although I initially found them a little daunting due to the number of features I had no problem navigating them.

Picture quality as with all Sony players is impeccable, with the most notable improvements in the higher model being the accuracy of flesh tones and the depth given to darker areas of the picture. To really make the most of this player I would highly recommend using the RGB output to guarantee a truly stable picture with no visible colour bleeding.

Due to my limited budget I chose this player with a view to it also becoming my main CD player and here unlike most DVD players it does not disappoint with all genres of music coming across beautifully. Sound quality in films naturally sounds brilliant and this is further enhanced by the ability to play higher quality DTS soundtracks contained on films such as Gladiator.

The player itself puts others to shame purely on aesthetics, encompassing a gorgeous aluminium front and slim construction. Whilst the front also features a gorgeous array of blue and orange LEDs which never come across as gimmicky, rather further enchancing the look of the player. The player feels appropriatly solid and substantial, whilst rear terminals are also gold plated adding to the feel of quality.

The remote control is a joy to use, whilst also boasting a large number of glow in the dark buttons which really helps since the best way to watch a film is in the dark. Other notable features include the jog wheel; making this an excellent player for the movie aficionado, such is the ease of access. I'm also particularly fond of the remote's ability to be programmed to also control your amplifier and television.

Depending on your views the player has a couple of drawbacks which may or may not affect your purchasing decisions. This machine will not play CDR's or CDRW's. However my own tests reveal that you can indeed play a CDRW as long as it is silvery blue to the eye. Other people may find the fact that this machine is not multi-region out of the box, means it does not cater to their needs. But then this is a Sony, you will find exactly the same with the Panasonic range of players. Take note that PAL offers a superior picture to the American NTSC counterpart. MP3 is also a no no.

In conclusion I would say that this machine has a lot to offer the DVD purist and I have no personal regrets with my choice of player. I would highly recommend it, make your friends and neighbours jealous today.

I've Had The DVP- S735D DVD Player For 2 Years Now, I Bought It With All The Finest SONY Equipment And They Are All Great. The Problem Is The DVD Player Hasn't Got A Strong Laser Beam, It Skips A Lot On My DVD's And Then I Try Them In The XBOX And They Work Fine, I Hope They Have Improved With The New QS Range DVD Players. The Picture And Sound Quality Makes Up For That, The Picture Is Very Clear, Better Than Any Other Brand And The Digital Outputs Are Great, Mines Is Not Multi Region So It Will Not Play DVD's I Brought Back From Florida. Great Matches: SONY STR-DB940 Home Cinema Receiver.
