The DVPNS30 automatically plays data DVDs containing MP3 files and JPEG image files. By searching the disc for available files. Viewing JPEG files can be done by selecting the appropriate image album you wish to view, and can then be viewed individually or via a slideshow, with the added option of displaying the date on which the photo was taken. When JPEG image files and MP3 audio tracks are placed in the same album, you can enjoy a slideshow with sound.
The on-board 192 kHz 24-bit digital-to-analogue audio converter ensures optimum decoding of all disc formats. A Dolby DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signal can be routed through the player's optical digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. If you don't have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: When you connect a stereo TV or 2 front speakers, Sony's TVS (TV Virtual Surround) lets you enjoy surround sound effects by using sound imaging to create virtual rear speakers. TVS was developed by Sony to produce surround sound for home use using just a stereo TV.
Playback options include quick set-up, disc resume, DVD/CD Text, custom parental control memory, Advanced Smooth Scan and Smooth Slow Modes, instant replay and instant search. You can set two kinds of playback restrictions for a disc, Custom Parental Control which enables you to set playback restrictions so that the player will not play inappropriate discs and Parental Control where playback of some DVD videos can be limited according to a predetermined level such as the of the users. Scenes may be blocked or replaced with different scenes. The same password is used for both Parental Control and Custom Parental Control.
Supplied accessories include a remote control that operates the DVD player and many brands of television. The remote makes chapter select easy, by just pressing the number button of the chapter you wish to play. You can control the sound level, input source, and power of many brands televisions by using the remote.

Excellent value for the price,

This review is from: Sony DVPNS30 Multi Region DVD Player - Silver (Electronics)
I bought this DVD player for the Sony make as they're always reliable after my other multi regional player packed up (much cheaper model by an obscure make and didn't last long). It was easy to set up and plays my DVDs a treat (haven't tried the MP3, JPEG, DVD-RWs etc). They only problem I had, which was a real pain at the time, was it would only play region 1 DVDs in black and white. It is listed in the trouble shooter section in how to try and sort it but I didn't have any success. I then rang the Sony Customer Services number listed in the bumpf with the player (which incidentally is an unrecognised number - try 08705 111 999 instead). When I spoke to a Sony spokesman he went on to tell me that "Sony don't make multi regional players and as it had been modified by someone else the guarantee would be invalid", which surprised me somewhat and because of that he was unable to help me with my problem. Be warned Sony are as much use as a chocolate fireguard!! Anyhow, I remembered a review made by 'Frontiertrek' (thankyou so much for your comments) which mentioned putting the player into 'RGB playback mode', which is straight forward to do and since then I've had no problems at all.So, in all it's a great player with the stiff buttons lots of reviewers have already mentioned but that's the only gripe. I hope my previous comments will help someone else as much as 'Frontiertrek's were to me, should they find themselves in the same position as I was in.

Very good player,
This review is from: Sony DVPNS30 Multi Region DVD Player - Silver (Electronics)
I purchased this player because of the very good price and to be quite honest I didnt expect much from it...oh how wrong I was, This player is fantastic I have a few discs that my old player wouldnt play properly or not at all but this sony plays everything I have chucked at it with no problems (dvd+r/+rw/-r/-rw). I have read most of the other reviews and havent had any of the problems some have come across. I liked it so much I bought another for my mum for christmas as its so easy to use even she will be able master the controls. I would recommend this player to anyone.

An outstanding development!,

The first thing that can be noticed about this DVD player when you first open it is its weight. It is a very light and slender machine made to Sony's usual high standard of quality! It is relatively easy to set up with two different set up options available. You can either connect it to your T.V. using a standard scart lead or for optimum picture quality, you can use the audio/video cord supplied. The set-up menu is fairly easy to follow as long as you keep referring to the instructions so you know what your doing. The most amazing thing about this DVD is the sound quality. I played my Morrissey DVD on it, and the sound and picture quality was simply stunning! The picture is extremely sharp and full of colour. The eject mechanism is very quiet and smooth. Neither does the disk make any noise spinning round whilst it is playing. The DVD player can also play many other formats of disks, not just standard DVD films. For the price, you simply can not go wrong with buying this DVD player!
