I bought my husband the 7" version of this Sony portable DVD player a year ago and we were both so happy with the quality he bought me this 9" version. It is absolutely wonderful! The swivel screen makes it so much easier to prop up while watching in bed, the picture and sound quality are well worth the 5-star rating, and the in-ear earphones which came with it an excellent and unexpected extra. I normally don't like in-ear headphones but these are very comfortable and the sound quality is superior to any others that I have. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this product to anyone.

Ordered this from amazon after I accidentally cracked the screen on my 4 year old fx810 model. First thing is the weight. They are so much lighter than the older models and whilst my old model had a 3 hour battery life, the 970 has a 6 hour life. The screen and picture quality is excellant and the sound is good too with 4 different settings. Of course most people will use headphones and the 970 has two headphone sockets to allow two people to listen at the same time. I disagree with another review which says it has a horrible striped look. The look is actually a carbon fibre look and I think it actually looks classy. It does come with a large remote but its easy to use and i think is more for people who might want to hook it up to their main tv. The buttons on the the dvd player are touch sensitive and seem to work well. It does come with a mains charger and car charger as well as leads to conect to a tv. I got mine from amazon warehouse so paid a bit less than full price on here, but overall its a quality piece of kit with a large screen thats worth every penny. I put programs from my sky box onto dvd+ or dvd- discs and have no problems at all.

One year ago I bought the previous 9" sony model, dvp fx930. I am using it on daily basis and I am very happy with the quality of the product. As my second son grew up, I felt the need to buy another portable dvd player and based on my previous experience I chose the current 9" model that sony is offering. However the 970 model is much less than the previous one. Beware: it doesn't have a head rest mount like the previous model, so you cannot use it in the car, although it's intended for this purpose, having included in the package the car charger. The remote is much bulkier than the previous model, almost to the size of a regular tv one. Further more, I found several divx files which the new model cannot play back, while the previous model has absolutely no issues with. Last but not least, the glossy horizontal striped look feels cheap. My advice to you - try to find the older model, you'll be much happier.
