The Sony DVP-NS405 is Sonys new step up DVD player in its 2002 range. The NS405 sets new standards in operational reliability, video/audio playback quality and ease of use. One striking feature is a new slimline profile, which at a height of just 62 mm saves mounting space and makes the players easy to combine with other home entertainment products.
Providing more extensive features, exacting performance and representing outstanding value for money within its category, the DVP-NS405 shares the same design as its sister model the entry level NS305. The 405 model features a Digital Video Enhancer that strengthens image detail and outline without overshoot. Also, unique to Sony, a Multi-mode Playback Dial centralises all function and parameter control on a single easy-to-use dial mounted on the units front panel. At the same time, a Multi Disc Resume allows users to stop disc playback whenever required and swap discs. Then, when they replace the original disc and press play, it restarts wherever it stopped. The players resident memory stores data for up to six discs simultaneously.
The DVP-NS405 includes advanced technical features, providing the utmost in high picture quality, such as Sonys Precision Drive2 System. The system includes a new High Speed Stepping motor and a Dynamic Tilt Compensation mechanism which provides faster and more accurate tracking of playback of DVDs as well as Twin Laser Pick Up which enhances playback of CD-R/RW. Compatible with various kinds of DVD-Video discs, Precision Drive2 compensates for disc warp and other disc imperfections, and thus ensures reliable disc playback. It also features impressive multi-format playback capabilities, including DVD+RW, DVD-R/RW (Video Mode), DVD-Video, CD, CD-R/RW, Video CD and data CD with MP3.
To further provide reliable and impressive picture quality, the NS405 integrates Block Noise Reduction technology, a new circuit that filters the borders of the component blocks, significantly reducing on-screen block noise artifacts. A new feature is Picture Mode, which allows the user to select one of five picture modes (including standard, 2x dynamic and 2x cinema) to suit their taste. With respect to exciting sound quality, a new 192 kHz 24-bit Digital Audio Converter (DAC) provides outstanding audio to match the players leading image reproduction capabilities. TV Virtual Surround sound--digital sound created from discrete multi-channel source--optimises the surround sound quality of your TV sets existing speakers to provide an enhanced surround sound effect without multi-channel speakers. Dynamic, Wide, Night and Standard sound settings are available.
An extensive range of features have been included, which are designed to simplify operation including an intuitive Playback Dial, Control Bar and Child Lock. Other user oriented features include a Quick Set Up procedure, guided on screen and Instant Replay, which allows the user to see the last 10 seconds again by pushing one button.
