The Sony DVP-F5 Portable DVD Player has a lightweight die-cast magnesium case. It is barely thicker than a DVD sleeve. Even with the ultra-slim battery attached, this innovation of the DVD market will stun you with its compactness and light weight. This unit doesn't include a display like the Sony DVP-FX1, but hooks up easily to most televisions and external display sources.
The extremely flat lithium ion battery is charged via the supplied AC adapter without being removed from the player. Just a few responsive buttons on the case and a single control inside make operating the player a breeze. The new portable DVD player is also equipped with a handy infrared remote control. The Magic Pad on-screen menu has been especially adapted for portable use to give easy access to all the required software and hardware functions. CD and DVD text can also be viewed quickly on the screen.
Custom Parental control is also included and up to 50 DVD titles can be stored and blocked to protect unauthorized viewing by inquisitive youngsters.
Equipped with a dual discrete optical pickup, the DVP-F5 can play DVD and audio and video CD formats, and is compatible with both the PAL and the NTSC standard. DSP servo functionality guarantees fast response times and precise scanning even if the disc is uneven. The enhanced Smooth Scan/Slow mode makes the picture stream flow incredibly gently. Clear single frame and slow motion are available for both forward and reverse.
Sony's new movie star has a 10-bit video D/A converter. It also offers Virtual Enhanced Surround Sound, a technology that simulates additional effect speakers. Through the unique SRS Headphone Surround function, this entirely new dimension in sound can also be captured using regular headphones. Those who wish to exploit the full variety of the DVD format can connect an AV receiver with decoder to the optical digital output for Dolby Digital, MPEG or DTS multi-channel sound. S-Video and composite signal outputs are provided for transmitting pictures to a television set. With its 24-bit audio D/A converter and a sampling rate of 96 kHz, the DVP-F5 also performs well as a CD player.
