I bought some of these tapes as I was recording some important film and was concerned about dropping frames. And surely I had no frames dropped when I used these tapes. However, I normally use ordinary mini dv tapes and have had no problems using them either. Also, I don't understand how the colour quality can improve? These tapes are digital and record the 1's and 0's your camera produces. The visual quality comes from the camera, not the tape. If you use a standard mini dv tape, it's going to record the same 1's and 0's as if you were using an HD tape. The issue I believe is data loss. If you are making home videos and are willing to take the slight risk of dropping a frame, go for the standard mini dv. For what they are, I think the price of the HD tape is bonkers!

I used these tapes in my new Canon HV30 to record my new granddaughter and the results are fantastic. I could never go back to standard minDVs after seeing the brilliant results. So much more details, even when blown up on a 50 inch HD TV screen. Plus the seller on Amazon.co.uk of the 5 HD miniDV pack was the best price I could find on the internet. Excellent product - you will never use anything else but HD tapes when you watch the playback.

Mr Malik may be theoretically correct, but that is not my practical experience. I tried cheap JVC DV tapes in my Sony HDV pro camera and it was a horrible experience. Drop-outs galore. Poorer rendition of contrast than the same Sony Camera recording the same scene with Sony HDV tapes (ie I had 2 cameras shooting the same scene). Dont risk it, dont buy cheap DV tapes.

These tapes make a massive difference to the quality of recordings. I recently filmed a wedding using them and the result was outstanding.
