5.0 out of 5 stars Great DSLR 20 Aug 2010
This a fantastic camera and offers excellent value.

Superb image quality and great feature set for the price.

Even the kit lens is pretty good too.

Don't listen to the 2 star review by tbuyer, he's obviously a Nikon fanboy and hasn't even used a Sony DSLR. Any DSLR in this price bracket will produce excellent images whether it be Sony, Nikon, Canon, Pentax, blah blah. Love the image not the brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Camera, for a great price!! 7 Nov 2012

This camera is literally amazing!!
Bought it and never since been dissatisfied! Don't listen to the 2 star rated he's just probably some stuck up Canon or Nikon fanboy with no real photographic knowledge. This camera offers brilliant performance - even at this entry-level price! The Sony A450 is not considered an entry-level camera, but an advanced DSLR ( with an entry-level pice but with much better performance! )

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent camera, great value for money 16 Jan 2011

This is my first DSLR and I am really impressed with it. I've been using bridge cameras for the past 5 years but have always wanted to get the 'real' thing. After looking at reviews for ages I decided to go for the Sony Alpha mainly because the image stabiliser is built in the camera itself (not the lens) and the fact that you can get second hand Konica Minolta lens that would fit these cameras. The a450 does up to 7 frames per second which is twice as many as the a290 and a390 offer. The 14.6 megapixel resolution is impressive too and this is more what other cameras within the same price bracket offer. I think the reason the Sony Alpha 290, 390, 450, etc are cheaper is the fact that they don't shoot videos but I don't think this is what a DSLR is all about anyway. If you want videos, you use a camcorder.

The menu and controls are very easy to understand and if you have used a similar style menu before, you will be taking stunning pictures in no time. The little instructions manual that comes with the camera is packed with useful info on how to use the various settings and I like the fact that it is written in a simple, easy to understand way. It also contains explanations of how the camera works, what is the role of the shutter, aperture, etc; a little bit like a text book. There is also on-screen guide which explains what the different settings do but you can switch this off if you wish.

I have read reviews that the camera has a plastic, cheap feel but I think it feels just fine. Buttons are easy to find, menu is easy to navigate through and I haven't found anything annoying yet. Battery has lasted for ages.

Another criticism I've come across is the screen resolution - again, I can't see anything wrong with it.
