It’s a whole new world in 3D

Discover just how good 3D photography can be. The WX7 gives you the freedom to take 3D single shot still photos for playback on your 3D TV – the ultimate in realism. It also lets you capture stunning landscapes and cityscapes in panoramic 3D with Intelligent 3D Sweep Panorama. Simply press the shutter while sweeping the camera from side to side or up and down to shoot a high-speed burst of frames. Images are then automatically stitched together to create one amazing panoramic image. The Intelligent Sweep Panorama function also lets you shoot movement without the image becoming distorted.

Every detail perfectly captured
With 16 effective megapixels, WX7 shoots intensely detailed, high resolution images that look sharp and lifelike even when enlarged up to A3 size. On board is a cutting edge Exmor R™ CMOS sensor capable of absorbing twice as much light as a conventional sensor to produce low-noise pictures that stay perfectly defined even in poor light. Ideal if you want to shoot late into the evening or indoors without using a flash.

Shoot far and wide

The WX7 has a bright Carl Zeiss lens with a minimum focal length of 25mm so you can capture great wide angle shots with ease. Its super-wide aperture allows more light to fall on the sensor and lets you shoot flash-free at twilight or in dimly lit rooms. For capturing action that's further away there’s a 5x IS optical zoom offering superb clarity. Optical stabilisation keeps your shots steady so your photos retain sharpness and definition, whatever and wherever you are shooting.

Making movies in Full HD 1080i

It’s not always easy to carry both your camera and camcorder when travelling around. That’s why WX7 includes excellent movie features for capturing those special video moments. Shoot ultra-sharp and lifelike movies in Full HD 1080i with one touch recording and efficient AVCHD video compression technology to optimise file size for easy storage and sharing on your PC. Sound quality is impressive too with stereo recorded at 30 frames per second. Relive all the excitement by watching your movies on your HD TV using the camera's multiple HD output options.

See everything clearly

Despite its compact size, WX7 includes a high resolution 2.8” Clear Photo Plus LCD with 460,000 dots. This large screen makes framing your shots really easy and provides excellent detail, high contrast and wide viewing angles.

Let the camera do the work

Sometimes you haven’t got time to set the camera up – it’s all about capturing a moment as it happens. That’s why WX7 includes features like Intelligent Scene Recognition which automatically selects from eight preset modes - Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Twilight Tripod, Backlight, Backlight Portrait, Landscape, Macro and Portrait.

Catch those facial expressions

Face Detection automatically adjusts the exposure, focus and skin tone of your shot so the photos you take of your friends and family look more natural. Soft Skin mode uses this Face Detection technology to automatically soften wrinkles and freckles, as well as adding definition to the eyes and mouth - perfect for individual or group portraits. Smile Shutter is another handy feature that when activated, automatically takes pictures when people smile.

Smiles all round

You can take detailed 7.1 megapixel 2D still shots any time you choose – even if you’re filming in 3D. Smile Shutter™ allows you to automatically take photos whenever your subject smiles without interrupting video recording.

Very suitable size, and plenty of useful futures.
Brilliant photography at low light.
video quality is also excellent.
I compared the camera to an Canon IXUS 220 HS (my friends camera, we took exactly same photos at the same time) and the Sony is much better especially at low light and for portraits.

The spec and functionality of this camera are amazing considering its size and price. I'd been more than happy with my Canon Ixus over the last five years, but when a friend offered to buy it, I decided to go for something better and smaller. The WX7 offers exceptional functionality in a camera which is not much bigger than a mobile phone. All the help info can be viewed on the LCD screen, so there's no need to scour through the user-manual. The 25mm wide angle lens means that group shots are easy and you can set 'blink' or 'smile' sensors to ensure the picture captures people at their best (although my teenage nephew hasn't smiled since he was a toddler, so we'll see if the WX7 can rise to the challenge there). 'Exmor R' means it functions well in low-light conditions, so it won't need to rely on the flash as much. Not sure how much use I'll make of the 3D, HD movie or panoramic sweep, but I'm sure some gadgeteers will covet these features. It's easy to reduce the spec on a picture by picture basis so that images take up less memory if you want to e-mail them. Zoom is available whilst in movie mode which not all other cameras can do. A USB cable is supplied to re-charge the battery and transfer images. You need to buy a case and SD card separately.

A couple of months ago, I was looking for a replacement camera for my beloved Canon IXUS 970is (now suffering from small defects after using it constantly for several years).
I was looking for a compact camera that can take great shots in low light, whilst providing good overall picture quality.

I am sad to say that although this camera is very reasonably priced, it has 3 major drawbacks.
The first one is that the video quality is magnificent, but the format is unrecognisable on a Mac computer. I also found that my computer actually struggles to detect the camera whilst connected by USB port (I have no such issues with the Canon).

The second major drawback is that at its higher resolution, 16MP, the camera is extremely slow to process the picture.

The third drawback is that the little control wheel at the top right corner is extremely sensitive to the touch. My fingers are not that big, and the slightest touch whilst reaching for the shutter is putting the camera in settings mode.

I have not been using it much because I dislike it. The Canon range is by far superior in my opinion.

What an amazing little camera I must emphasise the word 'little' as this is truly small in size considering the amount of features it has it sacrifices nothing.

I took this bad boy to Cyprus with me this year and it took the best pictures even in low light with no flash the camera picks up light with no problems thanks to its Exmor R CMOS Sensor. The camera also features 3d images unfortunately you do need a 3d TV to then view these pictures which is to be expected anyone moaning about this is an idiot because how else do you expect to view them, so its not a feature i experimented much with. Other features include different scene selects that automatically adjust the cameras settings to take the best possible snaps for the moment such as fireworks which took perfect sharp bright colourful images of a firework display they did whilst i was on a boat trip. Theres also a food scene, night scene, pet scene to capture fast moving images and many many more there's also a great soft face scene which almost makes your face look airbrushed which is great for close up photos if your looking a little ruff. you also get your usual features such as timers, auto flash etc.. I wont list every single feature as this is already listed in the product information i just hope to let you know how well the main features work.

With so many scene selects to choose from you may not want to mess around with them or if your just not sure how to pick the perfect camera settings to suit a particular scene? Don't worry, help is at hand. Superior Auto Mode adjusts exposure and other camera settings for optimum results in a wide range of shooting situations.

I had previously bought a FUJI finepix camera for a trip where charging a battery wasn't an option. It lived up to the marketing and survived the 5 day hiking trip with battery to spare. Wanting to upgrade, I bought the Sony DSCWX7 and am disappointed by the fact that it has SUCH a short battery life. Lasting a weekend seems too much of a challenge and I've missed a few nice moments because it needed to be charged. It has some decent features, my favourite being the burst function - it takes 10 frames in a second which is great for getting that perfect shot of a fleeting child. This is a SUPERB function with crystal clear shots even at 10MP (which I've set it to) as I only ever print a max size of 8x6. I've set the video to record at MP4 rather than HD to save space and also because I'm using old slower writing SD cards that won't record HD. So when you're buying an SD card, if you want to record your videos in HD, you'll have to buy a higher class, higher memory card (the product info says class 4 and above but I see from some reviews that even this struggled to write HD so class 6 and above has been recommended by other reviewers). Lastly, it is a TINY camera. I have small hands but this camera is "nail" operated which I must admit, is a little frustrating. You won't be able to use your finger for the bulk of functions. The disc wheel is also a little fiddly to use as it is set a litle too close to the body for my liking. And if it's important to you, it's very difficult to use this one handed. Previously I could take my camera out of my pocket, switch it on and take a picture with one hand without really looking. Now I have to use the other hand to steady it so I can look at the top to see where I need to press with my nail (as the on button is flush with the body so you can't feel it).Read more ›
