Perfect panoramas and self-portraits
Two new shooting modes will help you capture more memorable moments. Select Sweep Panorama, press the shutter and sweep the camera across the scene. This new shooting mode takes a quick burst of images, then stitches the shots together to create the ultimate seamless horizontal or vertical panorama in an instant. Framing self-portraits can be tricky without an expensive front LCD screen. Now with the new Self-Portrait Timer the camera will automatically take a picture when you and your friends are in the perfect spot for a great portrait.

Powerful performance
Gorgeous images are in easy reach with the W380, thanks to a range of high performance imaging technology. The professional-quality Sony G 5x optical zoom lens has a bright f/2.4 aperture for low-light shooting, while the 24mm wide angle means you'll get more people and landscape into your pictures. Quick responsive shooting and clear, detailed images are delivered by the CCD sensor working with the BIONZ processor, so you can make the most of the camera's impressive 14.1 megapixel resolution. At this size you'll be able to make a quality poster print at up to A3, or crop the image without losing any of its crisp detail. It's easy to review your shots on the 2.7" Clear Photo LCD screen, which offers intense detail and high contrast, so you can enjoy your photos in style.

Optical SteadyShot uses a sensor to
stop hand shake blurring pictures.

Your home movies in beautiful HD
The W380 isn't just about taking great still pictures. Turn the dial to movies and you're ready to record in 720p HD at 30 frames per second. Want to watch your movies on the big screen? HD output lets you view your videos and photos on HD TV, with the use of an optional cable. Add effects and music with HD slideshow, and create a really fun display.

Choosing the right settings
The W380 is packed with clever features that take the effort out of taking great pictures. Intelligent Auto recognises scenes, lighting and faces and adjusts settings, so that wherever you are and whatever the situation, you'll get the best results possible. Make handshake a thing of the past with Optical SteadyShot, which reduces blurring when you're shooting in low-lit conditions. Trickier shots like twilight landscapes and backlit portraits are taken care of with Intelligent Scene Recognition. Choose from eight pre-set exposure modes and the W380 will automatically alter aperture, shutter speed and colour balance so you get great results in a range of conditions. And people will shine in your portraits, thanks to Smile Shutter, Enhanced Face Detection and Anti-Blink mode.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic camera with deal-closing features 19 Mar 2010
Colour Name:Black
I had been needing to replace my old Sony camera for around 6 months now and had been looking at various cameras from various manufacturers trying to find the right camera to meet our needs.
It needed to be light and compact, take good pictures and be fun to use. This camera fits all of those needs very well.
This isn't our only camera, as I have a Canon DSLR for more demanding use. This camera is one we can take out without worrying too much about it, and one that will be there when we want to take pictures, and not on the mobile phone.

There were other cameras (at a similar price point) that out-performed this Sony in different areas, some had better zoom ranges, and some had superior video or poor light handling. Of these alternatives, some were too big, some were too heavy, some fell short in features, and some had clunky menus. This camera seemed to perform very well in most areas and has no real shortcoming that I have found yet.
It fits easily in the smallest of pockets, and is very, very light. The face detection and smile shutter features work extremely well and are really fun to use. In Smile Shutter mode, when the camera detects a smile on a target face, it immediately takes a picture. No input needed, so works really well taking self portraits. The camera's Intelligent Auto mode works very well, so it needs little adjustment of settings to get the picture needed. On the rare occasions the wrong mode is selected by the camera, it is easy to change settings as required.

The panorama mode works very well, too, and works in all four directions which I was unaware of before purchase. The resulting image is only as 'wide' or 'high' as a normal 14mp picture, with black bars completing the full frame of the image.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small & Stunning! 30 July 2010
Colour Name:Red
What a clever machine. This has replaced a previous Sony 4.1mp Camera, which is still working well,
and has now been handed down to the Children.
Very easy to use, excellent image quality, Very good Videos, and good sound. Build quality is
typical Sony, with great attention to detail, with a nice feel and vibrant colours
Not a substitute for a video camera, but for Pictures its colours and detail are simply stunning!

This is the third Cybershot I've had. starting with a tiny 2meg DSC-U30 before progressing to a pretty small 4 meg DCS-L1. I've also had a couple of Sony Camcorders which have given good service. Some may say I'm biased but I think I know when I'm onto a good thing. This new camera has not disappointed me one bit. Only the size of a credit card (a very thick one) it is absolutely packed with useful features. I like small cameras because they tend to get taken more places with me. I never seemed to have my 35mm cameras when I wanted them, or they had the wrong lens or film.

It only takes 2-3 seconds to fire up from cold which means you can get those important impulse shots. The face recognition works well at close range, not so good for large groups at a distance. Same for the smile recognition. For small groups of one or two they work reasonably well. Have you ever taken a picture when everyone smiles at the same time? Blink alert is brilliant & the camera can be set to take two pictures in a variety of awkward situations so you should at least be able to take pictures with no one blinking or moving at the last moment; can also take two pictures automatically in low light/backlight where camera movement may be a problem (a bit like bracketed exposures). There is also the more familiar burst mode for those moving shots.

My camera from Amazon was bundled with a case & 4gb memory sticks. The memory sticks were no good though as the Sony requires MagicGate Mk2 minimum & these were the earlier/slower version. It can also take SD memory of class 4 or higher which is very useful. Not only because it is normally cheaper but more importantly it means images can easily be transfered to other, non-Sony, equipment like picture frames.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, smart and a Sony. 28 Dec 2010
Colour Name:Black|Verified Purchase
To be honest I'm a bit of a Sony whore. Most of my electrical products are Sony including cameras, televisions, laptop, PC etc. I'm not going to review the camera in depth - I'll leave that to the experts at digicambuyer who gave it four out of five stars.

However, some noteworthy features include the ability to use SD/SDHC cards in addition to Sony's Memory Stick Pro Duo. The ability to shoot HD video (720p)plus stereo sound at 30 frames per second. The excellent sweep panorama function mode which shoots a high-speed burst of frames as you sweep the camera from side to side (or up and down!). Images are then stitched together automatically by the camera to create one panoramic image - clever bit of technology.

All in all a great little pocket sized camera and made even better by the fact that Amazon were virtually giving this away so I managed to nab one for a family member as well.

Grab an accessory pack for this camera (Sony ACC-CBTN) - well worth it if you can find for 30 or less as it includes a spare battery, camera case and mini tripod.
