Rugged good looks

Whatever you like doing, wherever you like going, TX10 is the camera to capture the shot. Because it’s water-proof, dust-proof, shock-proof and freeze-proof, you can be sure it will keep up with the action. Perfect for capturing downhill trails while out mountain biking or skiing, ideal in the bar afterwards while relaxing. Designed and built to take the knocks and shocks of active lifestyles but to look good too with a super slim profile that’s easy to slip in and out of pockets or bags. Choose your favourite colour and head out on your next adventure.

Serious imaging technology

But there’s so much more to TX10 than just design. Its 16.2 megapixel Exmor R™ CMOS sensor with BIONZ image processor shoots intensely detailed, high resolution images at 10 frames per second that look sharp and lifelike even when enlarged up to A3 size. Because the sensor absorbs twice as much light as a conventional sensor, you can be sure of low-noise pictures that stay perfectly defined even in poor light. So if you want to shoot at twilight while the sun is setting over the piste or indoors without using a flash, that’s no problem. The prestigious Carl Zeiss lens with a minimal focal length of 25mm allows you to shoot intimate portraits and dramatic wide angle scenes. For action that's further away there’s a 4x IS optical zoom offering superb clarity. Optical stabilisation keeps your shots steady so your photos retain sharpness and definition, whatever and wherever you are shooting.

Time is of the essence when shooting action or capturing special moments with friends. TX10 is equipped with a variety of smart features to make setting up each shot as fast and simple as possible. Select Intelligent Auto Scene Recognition and the camera will automatically recognise nine preset scenes and adjust settings to ensure you get the best possible results wherever and whenever you are. I am really impressed having ordered this camera in April 2011. Amazed at how small it is compared to other waterproof/shockproof cameras that usually have some bulky case-like thing around it.

The picture quality is incredible and close enough to my SLR. Underwater its fantastic, clear images and recording is great. Shoot modes are also good, the panoramic sweep is a lot of fun, I havent tried out 3D imaging yet as I dont have a 3DTV but keen to try it out.

All in all I'd recommend this camera to anyone, it looks so good and just has everything you'd want in a camera. Even if you took away the fact it is waterproof etc it would still be a great camera with great picture quality and usability.

I'm very happy with it!

After using this camera on a snorkelling holiday in Antigua I had to return the camera for a refund. This was due not only to horrible background noise while underwater but this same background noise also out of the water. While you will no doubt add a sound track to underwater footage this background noise under normal footage taken out of the water becomes intolerable(see video)
This background noise started after a few days into my holiday and I had snorkelled every day. I followed the recommended procedure for after salt water use, which leads me to question if water ingress to the microphone holes was to blame, After describing this to Sony they said it must be a hardware failure. The only other negatives were the camera performance under low light both video and still with the flash being very strong that tended to over expose the image. Also the continual opening and closing of the lens cover started to wear the logos from the front of the camera, a small problem but irritating on a two week old camera.
I was sad to return this camera as I just loved its size and functionality, picture and video quality is very good (Apart from the sound). The touch screen worked well, battery life I found to be excellent. This little camera could be a one hit solution to holiday still & video usage. If after a few more months and if there are no further reports of the same problems indicating my problem may have been a one off I would consider buying another one, which is how much I liked the TX10.

I bought the DX 10 as a replacement for my Olympus waterproof camera which packed up after 18 months (so much for it being tough).

The sony takes great pictures and has some nice features (though you would expect so given the price).

So far the waterproofing has been fine - I've been snorkelling for long periods over the past week and it's still going. Small droplets do get into the sealed doors, but this seems to be normal given that the same happened with my olympus.

There are two main reasons for 4 not 5 stars:

1. The screen looks great but the touch controls are pretty bad. Very unresponsive, and worst of all for a waterproof camera, they don't work when the screen is wet/underwater!

2. The manual is useless and barely explains any of the functions. There is a help function on the camera itself, but this does not help much and is inconvenient to flick between the pages. Sony could at least provide a fuller pdf manual on the installation CD.

So in short, it's good, but could be better.

Got this camera for my birthday and the results are amazing.

As the function invovled with the camrea are great, used it for my graduation and the picture quailty was amazing and the shutter speed was really good that i didn't just miss some of those classic moment, throwing the hats in the air and those little celbration by all my friends around me that you may normal miss with a cheaper compact camera.

I really think this camera is worth the money, though i still not tried the underwater function but that will have to wait till the next summer holiday.

Hope this helps

I've had the X10 for nearly two years now. I wanted something small enough to mount on my road bike's handlebars to take photos and video for a long ride over the Alps. The ideal camera had to be small, light, take good quality photos, be shockproof and waterproof. There were/are very few cameras that meet all of these requirements. The first thing I noticed, and was delighted with, was the size of the camera; it's tiny; think pack of playing cards size. It's equally very light. The flip down cover was just what I wanted to protect the lens whilst cycling; and although probably not recommended, I was able to take photos and video at speed whilst cycling. The video results were fantastic - I assumed the footage would be shaky, but the image stabilisation worked well and produced some great footage. The stabilisation even works for off-road rides, which amazed me even more. Photos are excellent quality - deep and rich colours. The wide angle lens works really well too. I've not tried the panorama function. I used the camera underwater in Greece last year to lake some footage of Loggerhead turtles - to be honest I was very nervous about taking it in the water. However, I needn't have worried - the camera was completely waterproof and look video footage that was sharp, with rich colours and very detailed. Really impressed. However, the camera is not without faults. The cover is quite flimsy - I have not treated this camera with kid gloves, but the cover does seem to scratch and dent easily. Then there is the touch-screen; mostly just Ok, but sometimes awful and really unresponsive. Forget it with gloves on.Read more ›
