3D – the new dimension

The sophisticated HX100V gives you the opportunity to discover an incredible new dimension in imaging. Shoot 3D still photos at the touch of a button for playback on your 3D TV. Just press the shutter and the camera will shoot two successive frames, then automatically create a single 3D image from them. You can also capture stunning landscapes and cityscapes in panoramic 3D with Intelligent 3D Sweep Panorama. Simply press the shutter while sweeping the camera from side to side or up and down to shoot a high-speed burst of frames. Images are then automatically stitched together to create one amazing panoramic picture at a high resolution of 42.9 megapixels. Sweep Multi Angle creates amazing 3D-like views so you can view your subject from different angles by tilting the camera screen. When you’re done, sit back and enjoy 3D shots on your 3D HD TV or zoom in with PlayStation®3.

Shoot in Full HD 1080p

Just like the HX9V, this advanced Cyber-shot records an incredible 50 Full HD (1920x1080) frames every second in progressive mode for ultra-smooth, cinematic action. It’s the perfect camera to take along when heading out into the great outdoors. Efficient AVCHD video compression technology optimises file size for easy storage and sharing on your PC. Sound quality is impressive too with stereo recorded at 50 frames per second to bring out all the atmosphere. Relive the excitement by watching your movies on your HD TV using the camera's multiple HD output options.

So easy with Superior Auto

Time is of the essence when shooting action or capturing special family moments. Superior Auto mode takes the stress out of selecting perfect camera settings to suit the scene by adjusting exposure and other camera settings automatically. You’ll get DSLR-like quality with low noise and high dynamic range for a wide range of shooting situations.

Impressive background effects

If high contrast is causing washed-out backgrounds and detail lost in shadow, switch to Backlight Correction HDR. The HX100V will take two images at different exposure settings then combine the best elements of each into one natural-looking image. Plus with Background Defocus, you can create professional-looking images with a razor-sharp foreground subject against a smoothly blurred background.

Natural portraits

Face Detection automatically adjusts the exposure, focus and skin tone of your shot so the photos you take of your friends and family look more natural. Soft Skin mode uses this Face Detection technology to automatically soften wrinkles and freckles, as well as adding definition to the eyes and mouth - perfect for individual or group portraits. Smile Shutter is another handy feature that when activated, automatically takes pictures when people smile.

Browse, manage, share

Upload memories to your favourite social networking website with just a few clicks of the mouse. PMB (Picture Motion Browser) Portable software lets you select and transfer photos or video clips to any web-connected PC. Ideal while travelling when you only have a few minutes spare to get in touch with friends and family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony HX100V 25 Feb 2012
I was undecided between going for the Lumix FZ150, Canon SX40, and the Sony HX100V. When I finally made up my mind and decided to part with my hard earned cash I went with the Sony. I am definitely not disappointed with my decision. This is a fantastic camera. After reading what seemed like a million different reviews I was struggling to make a decision. Each of the cameras I was considering has their pros and cons. One thing which really sold the Sony for me was the build quality. Both the Lumix and the Canon felt very plastic and lets be honest, a bit cheap. The Sony, although it is slightly bigger and heavier than the Lumix it is of an excellent build. It feels great when in use and everything is easy to find. A few reviews tend to focus on the fact that Sony have packed 16.1 mil pixels into the HX100V, and they view this as a negative because it can in fact lead to a lessening of the image quality. What you have to remember though is that this is not a DSLR camera. The quality of the images that the Sony or any of the cameras I have already mentioned will not match that of a Canon EOS or Nikon D to give a few examples. What you need to ask yourself when considering buying a new camera is what you intend to use the camera for. If you want a camera that produces good quality images, provides HD movie mode, is packed to the gills with function and versatility, then don't look any further, go for the Sony! The zoom on this thing is unbelievable! At 30x it can produce great images without the need to lug around any separate lenses, as is the case with any DSLR. I owned the Nikon D5000 and had the Nikkor 70-300mm zoom lens. The problem was it was a complete beast and a nightmare to carry around. Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic camera. 20 Dec 2011
Verified Purchase
A fantastic camera, so easy to use & loads of setting choices to use.
It is a fully automatic camera from taking pictures in its automatic modes (smile recognition) to using as a SLR (manual setting of aperture, film speed & focus).
The HD video is great, the zoom is fantastic (but would recommend a tripod when using the extreme zooming & the sound is very clear.
I have seen several super-zoom cameras, but I found this one the best for what I wanted.

5.0 out of 5 stars dschx100v 10 Feb 2012
Verified Purchase
Purchased this camera after I returned the Olympus sz30mr, this Sony is The Best I have ever owned, live colors and so many options, easy to use and very very user friendly system. Image quality can not be distinguished from DSLR, well in other words they made a DSLR in a compact version, there you go. if Amazon had 6 stars I would give 6 stars no probs.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Smart 20 Sep 2011
I've owned the camera three weeks now and after all the looking around at all the brands I think I've got the best. It is a shame it hasn't got a written manual as having to turn the computer on all the time to find out things is a pain. Having said that, a lot of instructions are to be found inbuilt and read off the screen. I have upgraded four times since 2000, from original bridge cameras up to the Nikon P90 with the zoom factor getting larger every time. The focus is always a bit iffy but this is the best so far, and quick. The camera is so automatic you don't realise some of the functions it does without a button pressed. For instance there is no function for turning the photo round 90 degrees when you've just taken the photo in portrait, just turn the camera back to landscape and the photo turns automatically. The pictures taken are impressive, inside aircraft hangers with no flash, and macro, are a treat. The battery lasts well, (I only use the camera for stills), and the settings are fairly straight forward, but as I said earlier, it's so auto that some of the settings you look for are not on this camera. Far distance shooting, (mountains), to macro settings, (flowers), are all automatically set, something I've always had to do myself. (I'm getting on a bit now and new equipment frightens me)! It's slightly heavier than my other cameras but I like that as it seems more steady and more solidly built. A little bit more pricey but it's worth it.

I have always been a fan of this series of Cybershot and the latest model proves it is very innovative. I like the seperate movie button. In addition, i love the ability to snaps out of a video shoot as stills! This camera gives one so many new options for a anrak like me. A camera very similar to a SLR with price of compact! Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars ~AMAZING~ 10 Aug 2011
By reuben
I have had this camera for several weeks now, i did manage to get it for 310, instead of nearly 400 like it is on Amazon. The first thing i noticed when taking the camera out the box was that you can charge the battery whilst it is still inside the camera, i hate taking batteries out and putting it in a separate charger. After it's first charge, i turned the camera on (which by the way takes about 3-4 seconds if you press the shutter button as soon as you press the power button.) I went outside and took many photos, which is when i noticed how fast the thing focuses, it is amazing! faster than my dad's dSLR. The panorama function is very clever, all you have to do is sweep the camera in whichever direction you like, including up and down, and it takes several photos automatically, and the onboard processor links them all up. Then, i found the movie function. WOW. It is absolutely amazing, it takes 1080p, and in 50interlaced, and 50 progressive. It is so smoooth, the steady shot is absolutely amazing, you can shake it about as much as you want, and it stays extreamley smooth, you can use the full 120x zoom (30x optical 90x digital) whilst filming. Another handy movie feature is, you can set it so if the camera detects a smiling face, it will automatically take a picture, whilst your filming. i like the way you can use the ring around the lens or the small ring on the shutter button to zoom in and out, and when manual focus is selected, the big ring turns into the focusing ring. The quality of photos is also absolutley amaazing! Recommend this to anyone, much better than my friends more expensive fujifilm 16.1MP, and has got better video quality, and sound quality than my mums panasonic 3mos [] quid camcorder. Brilliant camera
