The sound quality, dynamic range and the anti shock capability was pretty good. I was let down by the poor design of the battery compartment. The batteries sit under the disc (i.e. it is an internal compartment), so you have to remove the disc every time you need to replace the batteries. More frustratingly, the battery compartment is next to the hinge of the top cover making it quite difficult to access the batteries and remove/ insert them. Overall, not bad.

This is a sleek and smart CD player with all you need to do the business. The instructions are clear and the packaging and associated paperwork are all that is necessary. The controls and information window are on the side of the player and, as it is slim and the controls are black with black writing, they take a bit of getting used to but the CD comes with a remote which works fine, so the obscurity of the controls probably doesn't matter. The window on the side is rather small, especially when cycling through the menus but once you have the machine set up to your liking you are not likely to need to gaze at the tiny writing on the screen very much. Once set up and running the machine does exactly what it should with the usual options for repeat and fast forward and back. A clever idea is the bookmark system which means that you can set the CD to play only those tracks you actually want to hear, although in these days of burning your own CD's with your own selection of music this is probably now a bit redundant. The in-ear headphones are adequate and OK for the price. Unlike some other reviewers I had no trouble with the battery compartment but to be fair my previous player had a similar arrangement so perhaps I've just got used to it. There is no mains adaptor but if you use rechargeable batteries and keep a spare set charged I don't see this as a problem and it keeps the price down. All in all a nice machine and very good value for money.

This CD player marks a real shifting point in Sony's history, since they have made some of the most worthless player's on the market! Just put a brand new CD
in and it would jump about like a hyper-active problem child!!! lol. But this player doesn't do that... my hat goes off to Sony for sorting out a
real design no no! Skipping CD players. I've had this CD player for about 6 months now and it play's all of my CD's just fine. Plus they have sorted out the bass function this time around also (as it sounded very distorted when turned up beyond mid, but not this time around). So this player is an all round winner! I would really recommend this personal CD player.

This was not purchased for myself but for my elderly aunt who is really deaf. She said she couldn't hear very well with it, it wasn't until I had a pushed a few buttons, the sound increased,so without assistance in setting it up it would be pretty useless. These things aren't really meant for the
elderly because the controls are so small.

I was so impressed with this product - its quality of use and sound, and its cost and the quick delivery - that I bought a spare one because I hope this does not disappear from the market. CDs are an excellent medium for good music and should not be allowed to be fully replaced by MP3 players. The convenience of a walkman makes it valuable alongside a good quality hi-fi.
My only 'criticism' is that the lid opens only just far enough to replace the batteries - it is slightly awkward - that is all. Even the headphones are good enough not to have to replace them.

Great product for the price. It was a present for my 75 yr old mother in law, who is unable to operate an ipod, so this is ideal. Buttons are still a little fiddly for an older person, but still OK.

The sound quality is good but no better than a cheaper model. The Anti Jitter works perfectly. That's the pro's dealt with.

The memory is annoying if you activate by mistake (easily done) your going to repeat from beginning never to hear the rest of the disk until its released. So don't use at night.

Using the economy settings ie low sound, no extra bass, it still manages to eat batteries, and the Battery enclosure, its inside under the disk, given the limited case cover opening, changing is no easy task.

And the last dislike, the LC Display if you can find it, and your a few years on in life, well lets just say, Don't miss the Optician's appointment. A few months of use on I looking for a replacement already.

Like other reviewers I was really disappointed in the volume of this player. I bought this as a replacement for an old player and use it mainly for listening to audio books when I am a passenger in a car on a journey and the first time I used it I simply could not hear the speech over the sound of the traffic and the car noise. Even listening at home in a quiet place it simply isn't loud enough. I also tried to use it at home through a small speaker but again just not loud enough. I also found the battery compartment difficult to get into and the display not very clear. Admittedly I'm no longer in the first flush of youth and my eyesight and hearing are not brilliant but I never had this problem with my old player. I notice the volume can be controlled with the earphones but these don't make it go any louder. Can anyone tell me if I bought different earphones with a volume control whether that would alter the volume? I guess not? Anyway, Sony, why so quiet? Presumably it's so as not to annoy other people with excessive volume but surely, better not to annoy your customers?! No use at all to me I'm afraid.
