Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Manufacturer's description
The Sony DCRSX33 is a feature packed SD (standard definition) camcorder which offers great image quality for shooting video or still photographs. Available in a choice of two stylish body colours, it can record up to 23 hours of video on the optional 32 GB memory card and makes sharing your movies or transferring them to your PC hassle-free.

Light and compact enough to take anywhere, this camcorder incorporates the latest optical and technological innovations from Sony so you can capture the action in crisp, clear quality. Features like Face Detection help to ensure you get great results, whether you're after portraits or group shots.

Lightweight and compact
Because you never know when you'll want to shoot something, the SX33 is small and light enough to take everywhere - pop it in your bag for a party or slip it in your pocket for a walk in the park.

Easy to use touch screen
The camera comes with an easy-to-navigate 2.7-inch (6.7cm) touch screen which lets you compose your scenes easily, choose your settings and enjoy watching detailed playback. Because it's a touch screen, menus and settings are just a tap away, and as it's big enough to be viewed by more than one person you can instantly share what you've shot.

The large touchscreen puts menus,
settings and clips at your fingertips.

Packed with useful features
When shooting people, Face Detection adjusts the camera's settings to deliver natural skin tones and makes sure up to eight faces in your shot are in focus. There's also an on-board video light to brighten up parties, interiors and other dimly-lit scenes. Plus you can take still images at a resolution of 3.1 Megapixels.

Managing your movies is fun and simple
The included Picture Motion Browser (PMB) software takes the effort out of organising your movies. Just install it on your PC and and you'll have a perfect archive for your films which are all just a click or two away. You can arrange them by date, by person, and search through them quickly. You can then burn them to discs, send them to friends or upload them to your favourite video sharing sites in seconds.

Share your memories easily
One of the great pleasures of shooting videos is sharing them with family and friends. It couldn't be easier with the SX33. You can transfer your films to your PC using a super-fast USB 2.0 connection and use an optional DVD burner to make DVD copies. PictBridge functionality also lets you print still images without using a computer.

Simple to use
Using the SX33 is simplicity itself. The camera takes the guesswork out of shooting in tricky light thanks to its intelligent auto functions. If you prefer to be in control, easy-to-select modes include dusk, sunrise & sunset, fireworks, landscape, portrait, spot, sports (video only), candlelight, beach, snow for perfect movies every time.

Capture the action faster
Great action can come and go swiftly, so you don't want to waste valuable time starting up your camera. You can start up the DCR-SX33 in seconds so you'll never miss a special moment. Just flip open the screen, touch the start key and you're ready to shoot.

Use the 60x Optical Zoom to fill
the frame with distant scenes.

SteadyShot image stabiliser reduces picture blur
If you're not using a tripod and shooting with the camera in your hand, one slight shake could make your movie look less than professional. To avoid this, SteadyShot works automatically as a handy digital image stabiliser to ensure you get steady images every time, even when you're zooming in to capture close up details.

60x optical zoom for great close ups
The SX33 features a powerful 60x optical zoom Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens which helps bring far away action, closer without losing clarity.

Superb image quality
The SX33 captures images in MPEG2 format for super sharp high quality images. It also includes an 800k CCD sensor which offers increased sensitivity and captures crisp, clear video. The result is beautifully natural looking results, whilst the intelligent auto shooting mode means everything you film will look extraordinary detailed.

Connect with BRAVIA Sync
Got a BRAVIA TV? Rather than transferring your movies to disc, simply use BRAVIA Sync to navigate through what you've recorded and play a movie straight from your Handycam® on your big screen BRAVIA. The camera also offers a Video output and S-Video output.

Good value for money 13 Sep 2010
Colour Name:Blue
I am a casual video user that wants to take movies and stills when on holiday. My main criteria for a camcordeer were:-
1. Physical size and weight (so it was easy to carry around)
2. Large storage capacity so that many hours of recording could be taken without the need to dump to a secondary device
3. Long battery life
4. Good optical zoom
This camera meets all the above requirements adequately being particularly easy to carry around (smaller and lighter than many digital cams). Picture quality was good for a unit in this price range and controls were simple and adequate. My only irritation with the unit was the hand strap which was too small for anybody with large hands.

A really good buy 2 Aug 2010
Colour Name:Silver
I had never owned a camcorder before and have been very pleasantly surprised by this item. The picture quality is very good. The camera may struggle in dim light, but it is pretty much as I would expect. After all it is a hand held camcorder for under £200 and not something Steven Spielberg would go for. I used it to shoot about 45 minutes of video yesterday and could still have got the same again from the battery. It took me about 30 minutes to then transfer this to an external hard drive (15 mins) and then burn a DVD. Sound quality was excellent even shooting in a noisy place.

Previous reviewers have mentioned software problems. I have had no problems at all running the Sony PBM software with Windows XP- it works perfectly. Maybe Sony have ironed out the previous snags. The only minor irritation is that the videos are transferred in a format not read by Realplayer and which run on Windows Media player without any sound. This is not a major problem as they can all be quickly converted to mpg files (using the Sony software). As I plan to burn mine to DVD or play using the Sony software, this is not a major issue for me.

I previously used a canon camcorder. While that one was not too bad, it wasn't convenient at all times.. carrying cassettes around and it was just slightly bulky (as compared to the newer models)

Enter Sony DCRSX33ES. I saw it in John Lewis and was impressed by its compactness. Only downside was that it used flash and i was not aware how it stores the movies... I ordered it off amazon as it was 10 quid cheaper and got myself a 16GB SD card (the camcorder takes SD or Sony Memory Stick)

Pros:
* Its very very compact.
* It has a lens cover and it will tell you if the cover is closed.
* Powers On auotmatically as you open the LCD
* Takes SD card - thank goodness for finally getting it Sony
* 60X zoom
* Haptic feedback when using the touchscreen
* While it doesnt have a HDD, if you fill you card up, you always have the choice of buying a new one - no matter where you are

Cons:
* Its Standard Definition (I got it as i just wanted something to record - not necessarily at 1080P)
* Stores movies as Mpeg2 - Could have done with Mpeg4 or Divx

I am glad i got this camcorder. Its already done a good job recording my daughter's first visit to Disneyland
