Like most digital camcorders, the DCR-PC8 is equipped with an IEEE 1394 connection (also known as i.Link and Fire Wire) for digital image transfer, allowing video editing on a properly equipped home computer. In addition, all analogue ports on the DCR-PC8 have analogue to digital converters built in. With this feature, anyone upgrading from older analogue equipment can transfer their old memory to new digital tapes.
If you own a TV equipped with Sony's Super LaserLink feature (or purchase an optional Super LaserLink attachment for your TV), playback is especially easy. You can just aim the DCR-PC8 at the TV from up to 26 feet away, press "play," and enjoy your videos without having to connect any wires.
The DCR-PC8 also doubles as a digital still camera, recording photos onto an included 4 MB Memory Stick at a resolution of up to 640 x 480 pixels. You can also record up to 60 seconds of video directly to the memory stick with the MPEG movie mode. Digital program editing allows for easy dubbing of 20 selected scenes from one digital camcorder to another, or to an analogue VCR. Three different white-balance settings help optimize colour. The DCR-PC8 includes a microphone input, as well as an accessory shoe for extra lights or microphones. Also included are an AC power adapter, lithium-ion battery, remote, stereo AV cable, lens cap, and lens hood.

Compact Quality,
This review is from: Sony DCR-PC8 Mini DV Camcorder (Electronics)
I have recently purchased a Sony DCR-P8E digital camcorder after much deliberation and I can say that my choice has been the correct one.For straightforward operation, without the need for internet access or serious photo-mode,picture quality is simply superb.Touchscreen operation is very easy with various menus easily accessible.Using cassette memory function editing on to Vhs or Dvd is simple.Battery life with the supplied NP-FM30 battery is barely adequate.Upgrade to FM-50 or Fm-71!

This review is from: Sony DCR-PC8 Mini DV Camcorder (Electronics)
Having previously owned a Sony analogue camcorder, and been impressed with the quality, I decided to remain with the brand for the purchase of a newer digital model. My decision was justified. Okay, so you can probably get more features for less money elsewhere, but if you want solid build quality and great results I really can recommend this model.Aside from the above, good points are: The touch sensitive LCD which I find simple to use, as well as freeing up much of the camera chassis from fiddley little buttons!: The facilty for DV in and out, enabling home computer based editing: The small and compact size, which means it can be placed into sensibly sized jacket pocket. Bad points : I haven't found any really... I guess if you want to use your camcorder for digital stills this isn't the model for you as it doesn't have "memory stick" capability and relies on on grabbing a frame onto a few seconds of tape. But then unless you are willing to pay for a semi professional camcorder I think stills are best left to cameras anyway! Really it's hard to fault the PC8 for the money! I have found it be a well built, good looking and extremely capable little device at an affordable price.
