fab piece of technology this camcorder is.The picture quality on it is perfect and i love the widescreen aspect of it.I really do not have a bad word to say about this camcorder there is no motor noise like on the canon camcorders and it is so easy to use and i love the fact that its light weight so your wrist doesnt hurt after 10 minutes of filming.Buy it its FAB!!

    5.0 out of 5 stars brill! 29 Oct 2005
    By A Customer
An excellent piece of kit, produces great quality video and descent sound. I havent used the software it came with much but the times i did it does the job ok. Small shame that you cant write back to tape from pc but thast is easily offset by its price and other features, plus its sony. One small annoyance is that you cant switch between mains and battery without the camera shutting itself down, which was fustrating when using the time lapse feature, and also you cant access the tape whilst on the tripod as it loads from beneath, but that problem is on most cameras.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best 29 July 2005
    By A Customer
I looked at various different makes/models to replace my ageing but good Sony DV Camcorder, but kept coming back to Sony. I am glad I did. It fits neatly into your palm and we use it more as it fits into my wife's handbag, thus removing the need to carry it around over your shoulder, making you more inclined to take it out with you. The touchscreen for menu functions is a neat touch and it is very simple to use. The picture quality is superb and it looks ace on a widescreen TV. It is simple to attach to a PC and the docking cradle is a great idea - always charged. Only downside so far is it is costing me a fortune in blank DVDs. :-) Another winner from Sony.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top camcorder 18 May 2005
I was looking to buy a new camcorder for me, and thought it was best to go with sony due to their high quality goods and aftersale warranty. the quality is very good, and it fits around my palm so easy (maybe coz i got big hand..lol..).
However, it would have been nice to have received some tapes and maybe a case for the camcorder for the money i spent on it.
    Overall a very good camcorder.
The battery i got from it was NP-FP50, Which can only film for about 90 odd minutes, so it is advisable to get a spare batery.

    4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a "Handycam"! 24 April 2006
    Compact, light, easy to use!

Practical when out and about during a fun packed holiday with the kids!

Had a previous Sony Hi8 Camcorder that has been great for past 7yrs, but now too bulky and looked obsolete.

So decided to replace it with this tiny mini-DV model.

This has a great range of traditional features which are easily accessible using the touchscreen. Pictures clear and sharp when viewed on TV. Docking station is great to plug all your cables into, so you simply sit the camera on it and it charges up or can be played to TV or computer.

My one small criticism comparing it to my bulkier Sony camcorder is the limited width of field: using the widest angle of the lens you still have to step back to capture close subjects.

Other than that have so far found this camcorder a pleasure to use.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Reliability 19 April 2007
At first very pleased with this compact and versatile camera. However just after the warranty expired, so did the LCD screen. No joy from Sony who shrug there shoulders and advised that electronics can fail at any time. Not what I had expected from a solid brand. No more Sony for me.

My recommendation would be to try another brand or shell out for the extended warranty

I chose this to replace a similar camcorder that I'd had for years and finally it packed up. This camera is great, simple to operate, gives good quality down loaded to a TV.
