Brilliant value 24 April 2005
We bought a digital camcorder two years ago an it was great, but it just kept breaking down after a year (it wasn't a Sony)- we didn't want to pay the earth, and toyed with the idea of a DVD one, but we still had loads of mini DV tapes. So we settled on something cheap, that was compact, and very easy to use- and so we bought this Sony model. It is excellent- its quick and easy to use, the touch screen viewfinder is big, clear, and really really easy to use. It hooks up seamlessly with the PC and making DVDs is then a doddle. The battery that comes with it lasts about an hour (and takes as long to charge again), so I'd recommend a bigger one (I got a 3hr one- a bit bulky but great for days out), and it doesn't come with a DV out firewire lead for the computer, but it can hook up with a USB (supplied...). Its quite robust as well- but due to problems with the previous camera we also took out a 3 year extended warranty (which I wouldn't normally do as a matter of principle on anything!) as we do take it out and about a lot. It also has a great infra red night time mode, and it also shoots well inside and out, and the picture quality is spot on.
Excellent value, very much recommended.

The dog's danglers.... 19 July 2005
I bought this last week and all I can say is awesome. Infact, Personal Computer World magazine have given it the Highly Recommended Award in the September 2005 edition. How do Sony do it for the money? It feels like it was built to last for a thousand years!! The picture quality is awesome and it took me one minute to suss out how to use it. It's also very lightweight, small and compact. Gripes? I wish that the view finder could be angled upwards but thats a very minor issue considering the fantastic touch screen LCD display its got. Also the instruction manual is a bit thin on detail and it took me a while to suss out why I couldn't get it conected to my computer (USB is disabled by default!!). Also, no firewire cable is included in the box and you should get one of these - it makes a HUGE difference to the qualty of video tranferred to your PC (and then onto DVD).

If you want a decent and relatively inexpenivse digital camcorder then buy this. What are you waiting for?

A fantastic buy!!! 20 Jun 2005
I've just bought this camcorder and my first impressions are that it is fantastic! The camcorder is very light and compact yet feels sturdy as well. The touch screen makes it easy to access and use all the controls, and it is capable of adding special effects to your pictures and movies. It also comes with software for your PC, allowing you to download and edit your movies onto the PC, as well as being able to transfer your movies direct to a normal VHS tape. The only grumble I have so far is that the battery it comes with isn't huge - you get about 40-80 mins recording time using the LCD screen (although you do get a lot longer if you use the viewfinder) and additional batteries are quite expensive. overall, it looks like a great camcorder, and definitely excellent value for money.
