Manufacturer's Description

The new design of the Sony DVD Handycam DCR-DVD7E camcorder offers a brand new shooting style for camcorders. All the convenience of DVD recording has been combined with modern styling in the futuristic Sony DCR-DVD7E Handycam, supporting DVD-R/-RW/+RW compatible formats for shooting and playing back.

A new way of holding the Sony DCR-DVD7E camcorder, and the record and playback controls have been redesigned to suit this style of operation. In a departure from normal styling, the Sony DCR-DVD7E camcorder features a 2.5-inch Hybrid LCD monitor on the back face of its round body. This serves as the primary monitoring, framing and playback display for the camcorder.

The Sony DCR-DVD7E camcorder is capable of recording directly to DVD discs. Formats supported by the new Sony DCR-DVD7E DVD Handycam are DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW for direct recording and DVD-RW and DVD+RW for rewriting. The 8cm DVD Discs used by the Handycam range can be played back on most consumer DVD players. To view images recorded on DVD+RW on DVD players, without proceeding with the finalization session, images need to be recorded for more than 8 minutes with SP recording mode. Sony does not guarantee the playback of such recordings for all DVD+RW compatible devices.

The Sony DCR-DVD7E camcorder feature a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, with a 10X Optical Zoom capability. This ensures that your footage will be of pin-sharp quality, even when you are zooming in from a significant distance, while the sizable lens guarantees a bright picture.

Sony provides a wide variety of accessories to maximize the shooting experience with Sony Handycams.

A decent camcorder on the whole. Video recording quality is good but still pictures are not that good. Microphone doesn't pick up sound that well. The camcorder is easy to use with very few buttons and touch screen menu. The design of the camcorder is better than it's technical specifications.

extremely disappointed 12 Aug 2006
By Juan J. Lomeli - Published on Amazon.com
I purchased this camcorder last year and it wasn't long before I started to have problems with it.

The sliding mechanism on the camera that is supposed to allow me to change from taking video to taking pictures to playback will not allow me to do anything but video.

I haven't gotten rid of it because really that's all I really got the camera for. (shooting video) But is extremely frustrating when I try to playback and cannot get the slider to stay there. I do like the touch screen function. It is pretty neat, but the picture taking is veeeeeerrrrry grainy.Do not recommend that function at all (if you can get it to work for ya.
