The new Sony DCR-DVD403E Handycam is always ready to record true 16:9 widescreen and 5.1-channel Surround sound. This means it can directly produce complete multi-channel DVD's that can be played back to the full on a home theatre system. Picture quality is assured on the Sony DCR-DVD403E camcorder by the very reliable Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens.
The unique Sony Primary Colour Filter on the 3 Megapixel CCD is comprised of RGB filters for more accurate colour reproduction. The Sony DCR-DVD403E camcorder provides true 16:9 widescreen recording, taking advantage of the full width of the 3 Megapixel CCD, results in a wider angle of view than 4:3 recording. This is ideal for playback on today's popular widescreen TVs and for widescreen playback on the camera itself the camcorders also feature a 2.7-inch Wide Hybrid LCD monitor.
The advanced multi-layer T* coating within the Carl Zeiss lenses minimizes reflections, reduces flare and increases contrast. OK except in low light,

No problems at all with this product in good light. It does not capture good images on low light situations ie: Indoor disco situation. It has a nightlite feature but you lose all the colours. Other minor gripe is the 30 minute limit on each dvd, I find I have spare dvds in my pockets and if at a time critical event like a wedding, am pre-occupied with watching it does not stop recording at a critical moment. My old sony Hi8 picture is as good as this new product and Much Better in low light, plus a longer recording time. However, the mini DVD really is very convenient for storage and playing back your videos on DVD. Buy Sony brand mini DVDs or you get an irritating message from Sony across the screen every time you switch on.

SO EASY!!!!!!,

We bought this camcorder before going on holiday last summer, and it has proved itself to be a fantastic buy.It is lightweight, holds a long charge and is unbelievably simple to use, just charge it up,load a dvd and fire away. Our 12 year old daughter can use it with confidence.As well as the quality of picture being great, photographs are very clear as well. The sound can be a bit 'blowy'in windy conditions, but nowhere near as bad as our original Sony video8 camcorder(purchased in 1991!). A couple of minor problems, we have never been able to load the Sony software onto our computer (probably my fault) so have not been able to take photos off the disk and onto the computer, although it is as easy as pie to finalise the discs to watch on the dvd player. You also have to be careful when filming as, basically, what you record, you keep, there isn't really any going back over the discs.I think I have read before that it isn't a good idea to use this type of camera ir you want to edit your work, and I would probably agree, but if you just want to build up a collection of tiny little discs of memories, it's fantastic. When we first bought the dvd recorder, we hadn't really researched the media you record onto and nearly had a heart attack when we found that Sony discs are so expensive, but we have found discs called Ridisc which come in a bundle of 25 and they cost about 30p each, making the camera a much more reasonable proposition to use frequently. WE purposely didn't write a review immediately after buying the camera as we really wanted to get used to it, and now we have, we would recommend it wholeheartedly. We also bought it through Amazon saving a lot of money in the process, and Amazons service was spot on.

This is a superb product. Very easy to use and enables great results.The only downside of the whole DVD concept is the complication of DVD media you can use and the set up of the blank media. Unfortunately the blank disk you receive with the Camcorder can only be recorded on the once. Seems mad considering you are learninng how to use it. Tip - Buy DVD+RW at the sametime as the camcorder purchase.
