Sony surround DVD System,

This is a great piece of kit for making the most of your Sony Brava TV.It was easy to set up, and for the money gave an excellent improvement to sound on HD programmes, DVD`S and CD`S.on our 40" TV. The main reason I went for this model was it was its compact size, and when positioned didn`t look like it was taking over the room, which made my wife happy as she hates big ugly speakers, and yet it enables us to use the TV as a complete music system, replacing our old Hi fI combination.

I purchased this system to replace an earlier Sony surround system which did not play all types of dvd disc. This unit appeared to be built down to a price when unpacked, although to be fair it works well with my Sony Bravia TV. My main gripe is with the speaker wiring. This is hard wired into the speakers (ie the wire disappears into the speakers so has no external connectors) and has a colour coded plug on the other end for inserting in the colour matched socket on the rear of the player. This means the wires are either too long or too short and cannot be adjusted without 'surgery'. My earlier system had thicker and almost twice the length wires. Sony show the speakers all sitting on the floor in their instructions so presumably have adjusted the wiring lengths to suite and save money! Easily set up, you will need to purchase an HDMI cable as Sony despite showing two options, actually pack in the box, phono plugged leads with a scart adaptor plug. Not ideal for best picture quality. After setting up, the system works very well and the upscaling produces a very good picture. I have used pre recorded dvds as well as DVD-R home recordings and they run perfectly. For the price therefore an excellent piece of equipment, only spoilt by the short cable lengths

This system is easy to set up and will change your audio experience of movies and television completely - the richness of the sound compared to a television alone is staggering. In terms of set up - I have a single composite video cable from the player to our television (provided with the player) and a twin phono connector from the television to the player for the audio (not provided, less than £1 on auction websites). I found that the speaker cables were sufficiently long but I imagine that if you did want to lengthen them then a pair of cable cutters and some speaker cable should do the trick. Delighted with this purchase and highly recommend it.
