The Classic Slim Cyber-shot Digital Camera DSCW80

Design and Build

Design and Build

The W80 is an advanced yet stylishly slim, easy to use camera with a robust full metal body, giving you both practical durability and sleekness.

Megapixels

Megapixels

Digital photos are made up of dots of coloured light called pixels (picture element). To make a photo requires millions of pixels (Megapixels). The more Megapixels a camera has, the smoother and clearer the photos will be. So, Crisp, clear images are assured courtesy of the 7.2 effective Megapixel sensor.

Double Anti-Blur

Double Anti-Blur

This technology enables you to shoot in difficult conditions such as low light, without the risk of ‘hand shake’ blurring your pictures. The combination of the Optical Image Stabiliser (Super SteadyShot), and high sensitivity even allows you to shoot without the flash, making your photos far more natural.

Zoom

Zoooom

The high quality Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens offers a 3x optical zoom range and a 6x digital zoom capability along with a combined 15x Smart Zoom. Shots can be framed using the optical viewfinder as an alternative to the 2.5’’ LCD screen.

Face Detection Technology

Face Detection Technology

Sony’s unique Face Detection technology enables the camera to recognise and track up to eight human faces in any scene, automatically optimising focus, exposure, flash and other settings for beautiful portraits and group shots under any conditions – even in low light or with moving subjects.

Sound and Vision

Sound and Vision

The movie function will record not only the visual image, but the sound to go with it, so you can really capture the moment. All of which can be played back via your TV.
With full HD quality connectivity, still images can be enjoyed with the highest possible quality on any BRAVIA television or HD-ready display (requires optional connection cable or HD docking station) offering users the ability to print stunning images or even enjoy them time and time again.

Extra memory

Extra memory

Its easy to get carried away with shots that are so easy to take, so if your memory card fills up, or you forgot to put it in – we’ve all done it - there’s an extra 31MB of memory built in.

Battery

Battery

The energy-efficient design of the DSCW80 delivers up to 340 shots between charges, so there’s less chance of missing that once-in-a-lifetime moment because you’re searching in a bag or pocket for a spare battery.

Pictbridge Direct Print

It allows images to be printed directly from digital camera to a printer , without having to connect the camera to a computer.
PictBridge-capable printers typically have a USB Type A port which is then connected by cable to the USB port of a PictBridge-capable digital camera (typically a Type Mini-B). The user then uses the camera to select the pictures to print, which the printer then retrieves from the camera and prints.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not perfect, 6 Nov 2007

The photo quality is very good - especially for people shots. This is a first rate point and squirt camera for holidays and family snapping etc. Use is very easy indeed including the downloading process. Most people will use the automatic setting but the lack of a fast frame setting for sports shots was a surprise. The camera only shoots video in mpeg1, which is a major hassle and is not compatable with a lot of the most recent computer software (Apple i movie, for example). I find deleting scenes is a lengthy process (compared with say, a Canon or Nikon) where a sequence of small, fiddly buttons have to be pressed. The other gripe is that when the battery is low, it will still switch on and open the lens, but then the camera won't shut down and you're left stuck with a lens open until you recharge the battery! This is a hassle if you are out and about and have no-where safe to store the camera/ protect the open lens.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Good Camera From Sony, 2 Jan 2008

This review is from: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 Digital Camera - Silver (7.2MP, 3x Optical Zoom) 2.5'' LCD (Electronics)
I bought two of these for my brother & sister for christmas. I have a sony cybershot that I bought 3 years ago - a W1 - which I love although now is dated and missing some great features found on newer cameras.

The W80 is a great little camera, compact and easy to use. Great features include the high ISO which means less chance of blurry pictures. I tried this out and got my sister to shake her head as hard as she could and the picture was amazing - caught the action perfectly.

I must say that I was a little disappointed that with the red-eye reduction on most pictures came out with red-eye. However, the onboard red-eye remover is fantastic. Just access the menu and remove red-eye. I'd say it worked on 99.9% of the photos.

I must say that my siblings were very pleased with their gift and they were used all over christmas. For £117 you couldn't ask for anything more. I'd recommend getting a 4gb sony memory stick as this will be all you'd ever need and takes well over a thousand photos.

Got this camera for a holiday and I was surprised at how easy it was to use usually takes me a while to get used to technology but I find this to be well worth the money, easy to upload photo's and excellent picture quality. I can't fault it in the slightest - well done sony.
