Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
One hundred years ago, in the land of Gallowmere, an evil wizard was defeated by the honest citizens of the land. You are a knight that died in the first unsuccessful charge against the wizard's army, but the king, in need of a way to inspire his embattled people, gave you both a hero's burial and the credit for victory. Now the wizard has returned from the dead with a mind for vengeance, and you've been brought back from the dead to stop him. Perhaps the world's least worthy hero, you set out to save the land once again--for the first time.

The animation and humour are reminiscent of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. If this alone isn't enough to thrill you, the difficulty level will. This is one of the few games that seems to keep itself near the perfect level--difficult enough to keep you interested, easy enough to keep you from getting frustrated.

The perspective perfectly complements the gameplay and animation style: the 3-D follow-cam allows you, in most places, to look around with ease. And you'll want to take time to see the sights, since the game looks as good as it plays. This game isn't just for the hard-core gamer. It's for everyone. --John Cocking

Pros:

  • Cartoon zombies
  • Gentle learning curve
  • Goofy good looks
Cons:
  • Killing zombies can get monotonous
  • Addictive

5.0 out of 5 stars Medievil Platinum, 18 Oct 2000

Make no bones about it... this is one of the best platform - adventure/RPG's around!

Sir Dan 'the man' Fortesque to the rescue! Guide our skeletal hero through a vast array of tasks in this medievil saga. Defeat the evil sorcerer by collecting Chalices and defeating ghoulish enemies. Look forward to hours of fun freeing zombified villagers, battling giant ants, maniac whirlwind scarecrows and chatting with the 'regional' heroes of Yore - each with distinctive accents (UK only)! - before being rewarded with bigger and better medievil weapons and armour.

This is 'the' Great British action RPG from the 'hallowed' corridors of Sony Computer Entertaiment - Europe's Cambridge Studio.

Fantastic swords/crossbows/spears/magic etc, classic plot, intricate 3D environments and a mesmerising soundtrack combine to make this one of Europes top selling entertainment adventures. It is very hard to fault as it manages to push the PS1 to the limit of its potential without sacrificing playability or control. Working out progressively more addictive riddles in amusing and sumptously modelled locations is a pleasure. There is a lot of support out there on the web too - from walk thru's to useful cheats.

In the end Medievil is a great excuse to watch a beautiful series of distinctly filmic FMV sequences on your Playstation.

Feel the excellent balance of living/breathing atmosphere and mounting excitement as your foe relinquishes his Magic to the power of boney Sir Dan... back from the dead and hungry for revenge and justice!

Put this game in your collection to add an essential element of English humour, culture and myth - sword slashing style! Our personal favourites were the fields of nasty pumpkin headed scarecrows and angry yokels. Dispersing the oppressive clouds that cover the levels within this fairy tale land impressed us no end, but navigating the ant hill had us crawling in submission! so keep your wits (and shield) about you.

Good fortune favours the brave and the enslaved country folk of the good land in which you once lived expect you to do your best!

stroyline is pretty magical and differnt. but the biggest reason i love this game so much is it brings back some good memories for me playing it. Great gameplay, weapons, storyline and its also funny at some cut-scenes its a old game but old school games rule them all!

Best adventure game ever

5.0 out of 5 stars Being dead never felt so good, 18 Oct 2002
By Mrs A Teale (Bradford, West Yorkshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This is an absolutely excellent game which kept me and my son riveted for several weeks. The graphics are cool without being cute and the game flows from one level into another. It makes you feel alive to be dead.

There are only two things that let this game down at all and they are the camera view of the game, which can get in the way of play at times and the fact that once you've solved all the clues that's it and for ever after you can just waltz through without using your brain.

Other than that this game is a ton of fun!! and well recommended!
